Under 2005 genomfördes en studie vars slutsats bl. a. var att polisen borde kunna klara upp fler misshandelsbrott där parterna är obekanta med varandra och där brottet skett utomhus. RPS gav därefter Brå i uppdrag att genomföra en ny studie som i stort sett hade samma syfte som den från 2005. Brå:s resultat av studierna har redovisats i Rapport 2007:12 och 2009:1.
