I am a historian, associate professor in European studies at Lund University in Sweden. My research focuses on modern European history, particularly the history of Central and Eastern Europe during and after the Cold War, and the development and problems of Soviet communism and its aftermath. I have published studies and articles on the Holocaust in Czech and Slovak historical cultures, about the problems of institutionalization of historical memory and on the memory of the Soviet Gulag in present-day Russia. I am currently preparing a book based on critical analysis of my interviews with Vladimir Semichastny, chairman of the KGB from 1961 to 1967, which he had conducted in Moscow in the 1990s. The book is under contract with Yale University Press.
