'Did they think I would understand all that on my own?' A questionnaire study about sexuality with Swedish cancer patients.

This study investigates information about the sexual effects of cancer on patients, irrespective of age or diagnosis, in terms of fertility, sexual desire and sexual function. A quantitative study was conducted and the results are based on responses from 106 questionnaires. The results show that 48% of respondents had not received any information in the areas of inquiry. There was a difference bet

Spatially coupled turbo-like codes : A new trade-off between waterfall and error floor

Spatially coupled turbo-like codes (SC-TCs) have been shown to have excellent decoding thresholds due to the threshold saturation effect. Furthermore, even for moderate block lengths, the simulation results demonstrate a very good bit error rate performance in the waterfall region. In this paper, we discuss the effect of spatial coupling on the performance of TCs in the finite block-length regime.

Indigenous feminisms - Sámi perspectives

PhD candidate: Ina KnobblockAbstract: My research explores the contribution of Indigenous feminism to social theory in general and to feminist theory in particular. My specific area of interest are Sámi feminist perspectives. Methodologically, my work takes as its point of departure the narratives of Sámi feminists in the Nordic countries. As part of my ongoing research, I have met with and interv

Five homologous repeats of the protein G-related protein MIG cooperate in binding to goat immunoglobulin G

Protein MIG, from Streptococcus dysgalactiae, binds alpha2-macroglobulin and immunoglobulin G (IgG). MIG-derived fusion proteins with one to five IgG-binding repeats differed up to 72,000- fold in avidity for goat IgG, indicating a considerable cooperativity of the repeats. Significant sequence variation in the IgG-binding repeats was recognized. Protein MIG interacted with goat IgG1 via both the

What Can I Do About My Face? A Critical Feminist Exploration of How Women Relate to Personal Branding

Purpose: With our study we aim to uncover the gendered nature of personal branding by exploring the phenomenon from women’s perspectives. Theoretical Framework: Our study draws on theory from scholarly literature on gender in organizations and personal branding as well as on popular personal branding literature. Methodology: Locating our qualitative research in the interpretive and critical femini

My preferable workplace - A quantitative study about what HR-students find attractive in a coming employer and possible difference between gender and level of extroversion

Syftet med detta arbete var att med utgångspunkt i teori rörande employer branding, personlighetsdraget extraversion och könsskillnader undersöka hur viktiga olika aspekter av employer branding anses vara. En kvantitativ studie utfördes för att undersöka detta. Datainsamling från sammanlagt 87 deltagare som alla studerar Personal- och arbetslivsfrågor vid Lunds Universitet, analyserades avseende gThe purpose of this study was to, with basis in theory regarding employer branding, the personality trait of extroversion and gender differences examine the perceived importance of different aspects of employer branding. A quantitative study that included a questionnaire was made to investigate this phenomenon. Data acquisition from a total of 87 participants, who all currently study the Human Res

That's not my Robert! Identity maintainance and other warrants in family members' claims about mistreatment in old-age care

This study has explored how family members of care recipients define and sustain claims of mistreatment in old-age care. Twenty-one informants were recruited from an association of relatives of care recipients in Sweden. Using argumentation analysis, four warrants about mistreatment Were identified from the qualitative interview data: they referred to physical harm, psychological harm, social-care

What is my teacher talking about? Effects of displaying the teacher’s gaze and mouse cursor cues in video lectures on students’ learning

Eye movement modelling examples (EMME) are instructional videos that display a teacher’s eye movements as “gaze cursor” (e.g. a moving dot) superimposed on the learning task. This study investigated if previous findings on the beneficial effects of EMME would extend to online lecture videos and compared the effects of displaying the teacher’s gaze cursor with displaying the more traditional mouse

A novel approach to image coding using off-line foveation controlled by multiple eye-tracking measurement

In this paper we investigate the feasibility of using a wavelet transform to compress individual frames in a video sequence controlled by points of gaze coordinates collected from different viewers by an eye-tracker. Unlike most eye-tracking controlled compression approaches, we make the compression "off-line" and not in real time. Our results indicate that the distribution of gaze-points is "comp

SkiROS—A skill-based robot control platform on top of ROS

The development of cognitive robots in ROS still lacks the support of some key components: a knowledge integration framework and a framework for autonomous mission execution. In this research chapter, we will discuss our skill-based platform SkiROS, that was developed on top of ROS in order to organize robot knowledge and its behavior. We will show how SkiROS offers the possibility to integrate di
