Exploring differences in how males and females leverage trust and reputation in driving online purchase intentions

How customers develop purchase intentions in online shopping has been a perennial area of interest. In this research note, we ask whether males and females leverage trust in and perceive reputation of online retailers differently in reporting purchase intentions. Drawing on the broader literature on differences in males and females in online shopping behaviors, we propose that females rely on repu

The Parapineal Organ of Teleosts

A parapineal organ was found to be present in 21 teleost fishes belonging to 20 different families, but was absent in poecilids and cyprinodontids. The parapineal organ was situated on the left side of the brain and sent a nerve tract to the left habenular nucleus, except in Gadus, where a “parapineal organ” appeared to send a nerve tract into the pineal stalk. The parapineal organ of adult Gaster

Rethinking Collection Practice with Frances Lloyd-Baynes at Mia

Discussions and debates about traditional values of equity and inclusion have increased in recent years, and participants in these discussions include professional heritage institutions, journalists of the daily press and the public through social media. Museums, as keepers of cultural stories and heritage under their auspices, are increasingly examining their role in shaping a narrative of divers

A reference panel of 64,976 haplotypes for genotype imputation

We describe a reference panel of 64,976 human haplotypes at 39,235,157 SNPs constructed using whole-genome sequence data from 20 studies of predominantly European ancestry. Using this resource leads to accurate genotype imputation at minor allele frequencies as low as 0.1% and a large increase in the number of SNPs tested in association studies, and it can help to discover and refine causal loci.

Determination of factor IX allotypes for carrier identification in haemophilia B

The existence of two genetic variants (allotypes) of normal human factor IX is used for carrier detection in three families with severe and one with mild haemophilia B. By analysis of IX:Ag with two different monoclonal antibodies in 93 members of the families, allelic assignment is shown to be a complement in carrier diagnosis to genotypic DNA studies. Allelic assignment makes possible a reliable

Income-related inequalities in health : Some international comparisons

This paper presents evidence on income-related inequalities in self- assessed health in nine industrialized countries. Health interview survey data were used to construct concentration curves of self-assessed health, measured as a latent variable. Inequalities in health favoured the higher income groups and were statistically significant in all countries. Inequalities were particularly high in the

A General Method for Defining and Structuring Buffer Management Problems

In an industrial plant, availability is an important factor since increased availability often gives an increase of final production, which in many cases means an increased profit for the company. The purpose of using buffer tanks is to increase the availability either by separating production units from each other or by minimizing flow variations. However, the methods for achieving this goal is n

Differential Glucose-Regulation of MicroRNAs in Pancreatic Islets of Non-Obese Type 2 Diabetes Model Goto-Kakizaki Rat.

The Goto-Kakizaki (GK) rat is a well-studied non-obese spontaneous type 2 diabetes (T2D) animal model characterized by impaired glucose-stimulated insulin secretion (GSIS) in the pancreatic beta cells. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are short regulatory RNAs involved in many fundamental biological processes. We aim to identify miRNAs that are differentially-expressed in the pancreatic islets of the GK rats an

Next generation diabetes scientists shape global research culture

The annual Winter School of the Danish Diabetes Academy (DDA) in November 2019 challenged postdoctoral researchers with tough questions regarding research culture that scientists around the world are discussing. The complexity and competitiveness of modern research makes it increasingly difficult for junior researchers to navigate in the science community. This editorial reflects the voices of nea
