Factors affecting the impaired uptake of chylomicron remnants in the cholestatic rat

We have previously shown that bile duct ligation inhibits the hepatic uptake of chylomicron remnants in rats. In the present study we have investigated different possible causes of this inhibition. Intravenous infusion of bile or sodium taurocholate reduced the hepatic chylomicron remnant uptake. Perfused livers from bile duct-ligated rats metabolized chylomicron remnants at a reduced rate.

Studien fann att Klurisens deltest, A- och B-del hade otillräcThe purpose of this study was to examine the psychometric properties of Klurisen, a test measuring mathematical problem-solving ability. A total of 273 Second grade students participated in trials, testing Klurisen twice and an adapted Swedish version of a subtest of the Iowa Test of Basic Skills once. Results indicated that the reliability of the two subtests of Klurisen were low when assessed se

Responsibility to Protect in Libya and Syria: The R2P Discourse within the UN Security Council

The past five years, Northern Africa and the Middle East have been characterized by revolutions and civil wars. Today, we can see two major civil wars raging in the region, one in Libya and another in Syria. In 2011, the UN Security Council (UNSC) passed resolutions that would ultimately lead to a military intervention in Libya, with the purpose to protect civilians from the regime. This intervent

En heltäckande lagstiftning? En problematisering av propositionen till diskrimineringslagen

The Swedish government submitted proposal 2007/08: 95 to the Parliament (Riksdagen) in 2007. The proposal contains the main ideas and pricipals of Sweden's first cohesive discrimination law. The proposal aims to describe how the legislation should act more efficiently and comprehensively, something the older laws could not manage. The aim of this thesis has been to explain the problems associa

Pandemic Pathways for Food System Sustainability

The COVID-19 pandemic revealed the fragility of the global food system and its existing inadequacies in achieving food security, providing jobs, and ensuring environmental sustainability on various regimes around the world. Through a qualitative thematic-textual analysis, this thesis uses a case study of New York City to identify themes of actor expectations, either explicit or implicit, on how to

Chinese FDI and the African Health System

Numerous African governments are actively implementing diverse strategies to attract increased foreign direct investments (FDI) to bolster their economies. However, there remains an ongoing debate regarding the impact of FDI on economic development, particularly concerning healthcare. Furthermore, there is a notable lack of understanding regarding the influence of Chinese FDI on the African health

A digital tool for life cycle assessment in construction projects

The building and construction industry is responsible for around 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions, driving the urgent need for new regulations. As such, the life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology has become fundamental for evaluating environmental impacts. Despite the need for digital tools to support environmental performance evaluations, the lack of guidance on developing such tools hinde

The relation between wave asymmetry and particle orbits analysed by Slepian models

The statistical relation between ocean wave geometry and water particle movements can be formulated in the stochastic Gauss-Lagrange model. In this paper we use Slepian models to get detailed information of the sea surface elevation in the neighbourhood of local maxima in a Gaussian wave model and of the movements of the top particle of the waves. We present full conditional distributions of the GThe statistical relation between ocean wave geometry and water particle movements can be formulated in the stochastic Gauss-Lagrange model. Navigating conflicting desires: Parenting practices and the meaning of educational labor in urban East Asia

South Korea and Singapore have established a reputation as top performers in international student assessment tests and rankings, which is usually understood to be the result of competitive education systems and a distinct parenting culture. They also share a large private tuition industry, fueled by parents’ anxiety over their children’s academic achievements and future. RESISTE : Building a framework for resilience to natural disasters in Chile

Chile’s exposure to multiple natural hazards and its fragmented resilience governance highlight the urgent need for a standardised measurement tool. This thesis adapts an Australian framework to develop the Resiliencia Sistémica, Integral, Social y Territorial para Emergencias (RESISTE), a top-down, indicator-based framework rooted in socio-ecological system thinking and tailored to Chile’s contex

Power, status, and emotion management in professional court work : The case of judges and prosecutors

We examine key characteristics of the work tasks of judges and prosecutors from a power and status perspective, discerning how emotions tie into this perspective. Analysis of court observations, interviews and shadowing of judges and prosecutors at four Swedish district courts and prosecution offices shows that power and status operate differently for the respective professions, resulting in distiWe examine key characteristics of the work tasks of judges and prosecutors from a power and status perspective, discerning how emotions tie into this perspective. Freight transportation security system : an integrative literature review connecting institutional pressure with performance

Freight transportation security concerns both public and private sector institutions, yet their interests are often misaligned, resulting in tensions and trade-offs between performance criteria. Previous research overlooks the connection of public and private interests and provides a fragmented view of the institutions that impact operational conditions and performance within freight transportatioFreight transportation security concerns both public and private sector institutions, yet their interests are often misaligned, resulting in tensions and trade-offs between performance criteria.
