Kursen syftar till att utöka studentens svenska ordförråd och förmåga att anpassa sin svenska till olika kommunikationssituationer samt att utveckla studentens förmåga att delta i debatter och diskussioner på svenska. Skriftlig språkfärdighet och kunskaper i svenska språkets stilistiska variationer tränas genom exempelvis faktatexter och textanalyser. Ett aktivt ordförråd byggs upp genom textläsni

I kursen tränas muntlig färdighet genom diskussioner, argumentationer, kortare anförande och föredrag. Skriftlig färdighet övas genom uppsatsskrivning, referat, praktiska skrivelser och sammanställningar av fakta från olika informationskällor. Olika texter analyseras med utgångspunkt i genre och språklig stil. Läsförmågan uppövas genom sökläsning och studier av såväl sakprosatexter som skönlittera
