Scandinavian guidelines for initial management of minor and moderate head trauma in children.

The management of minor and moderate head trauma in children differs widely between countries. Presently, there are no existing guidelines for management of these children in Scandinavia. The purpose of this study was to produce new evidence-based guidelines for the initial management of head trauma in the paediatric population in Scandinavia. The primary aim was to detect all children in need of

The structures of T6, T3R3 and R6 bovine insulin: combining X-ray diffraction and absorption spectroscopy

The crystal structures of three conformations, T6, T3R3 and R6, of bovine insulin were solved at 1.40, 1.30 and 1.80 angstrom resolution, respectively. All conformations crystallized in space group R3. In contrast to the T6 and T3R3 structures, different conformations of the N-terminal B-chain residue PheB1 were observed in the R6 insulin structure, resulting in an eightfold doubling of the unit-c

Male gender is an adverse risk factor only in young patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma - a Swedish population-based study

Background. Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is a heterogeneous group of B-cell lymphomas. Five clinical adverse risk factors are merged into the International Prognostic Index (IPI), which is the major tool for prognostication. In contrast to Hodgkin's lymphoma, gender is not considered as an adverse risk factor for DLBCL patients. As we clinically had observed a very good survival rate in y

Spectral estimation of irregularly sampled exponentially decaying signals with applications to RF spectroscopy

The problem of estimating the spectral content of exponentially decaying signals from a set of irregularly sampled data is of considerable interest in several applications. for example in various forms of radio frequency spectroscopy. in this paper. we propose a new nonparametric iterative adaptive approach that provides a Solution to this estimation problem As opposed to commonly used methods in

The Hidden Sexuality of Alexandrium Minutum: An Example of Overlooked Sex in Dinoflagellates.

Dinoflagellates are haploid eukaryotic microalgae in which rapid proliferation causes dense blooms, with harmful health and economic effects to humans. The proliferation mode is mainly asexual, as the sexual cycle is believed to be rare and restricted to stressful environmental conditions. However, sexuality is key to explaining the recurrence of many dinoflagellate blooms because in many species

Fiber intake and total and cause-specific mortality in the European Prospective Investigation into Cancer and Nutrition cohort

Background: Previous studies have shown that high fiber intake is associated with lower mortality. However, little is known about the association of dietary fiber with specific causes of death other than cardiovascular disease (CVD). Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the relation between fiber intake, mortality, and cause-specific mortality in a large European prospective study of 452

Impulse oscillometry may be of value in detecting early manifestations of COPD.

BACKGROUND: Spirometry is used to diagnose chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The Impulse oscillometry system (IOS) allows determination of respiratory impedance indices, which might be of potential value in early COPD, although previous experience is limited. We examined pulmonary resistance and reactance measured by IOS in subjects with or without self-reported chronic bronchitis or

Cancer risk among patients hospitalized for Type 1 diabetes mellitus: a population-based cohort study in Sweden

P>Aims Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is an autoimmune disease with potential mechanistic links to immune-related cancers. We aimed at examining the overall and specific cancer risks among hospitalized T1DM patients from the national registers in Sweden. Methods A T1DM research cohort was created by identifying T1DM patients from the Hospital Discharge Register and linking them with the Cancer Re

Pro-Inflammatory Cytokines Reduce the Proliferation of NG2 Cells and Increase Shedding of NG2 In Vivo and In Vitro.

Neuron glial 2 (NG2) cells become strongly activated in injured brain areas. The activation is characterized by increased proliferation as well as increased expression and shedding of the proteoglycan NG2 expressed on their cell surface. It is currently not known how these cells respond to low-grade neuroinflammation provoked by systemic inflammation. To investigate this, we analyzed NG2 cell prol

A Dynamic Framework of Tourist Experiences: Spatial Temporalities and Performances in the Experience Economy

This article outlines a conceptual model that allows a discussion regarding tourist experiences. Through the notion and deconstruction of the concept experience design it is argued that in order to be able to analyze tourism and develop new innovative strategic approaches to tourism management, dynamic notions of space, time and performance have to be especially attended to. This is done through a

Microstructure evolution influenced by dislocation density gradients modeled in a reaction-diffusion system

Macroscopic properties of metallic materials are to a large extent dictated by the grain size and the presence and arrangement of grain boundaries. Plastic slip deformation will lead to the formation of dislocation pile-ups at grain boundaries, causing a heterogeneous distribution of dislocation density. This will on the macroscale manifest itself as a grain size dependence of the yield stress. Co

Inbreeding and homozygosity in breast cancer survival.

Genome-wide association studies (GWASs) help to understand the effects of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on breast cancer (BC) progression and survival. We performed multiple analyses on data from a previously conducted GWAS for the influence of individual SNPs, runs of homozygosity (ROHs) and inbreeding on BC survival. (I.) The association of individual SNPs indicated no differences in th

Kanikerna i Dalby: tre studier

The Canons of Dalby. Three Studies I. When did the brothers in Dalby become Augustinians? There are different opinions among historians about what kind of community Egino founded in Dalby in the late 1060s. Some say it was Benedictine, others say it was a community of canons. Among the latter, some say they were regular canons, others that they were secular, and one distinguished historian has ev

Re-evaluation of the reaction rate coefficient of CH3Br + OH with implications for the atmospheric budget of methyl bromide

The reaction rate coefficient k(CH3Br + OH) has been determined in the temperature range 298-373 K, using pulse radiolysis/UV kinetic spectroscopy, and at 298 K using a relative rate method. The Arrhenius expression obtained from a fit to the experimental results is (2.9 +/- 0.9) x 10(-12) exp(-(1230 +/- 125)/T) cm(3) molecule(-1) s(-1), which is greater than the expression currently recommended.

Wideband 4×8 Array Antennas with Aperture Coupled Patch Antenna Elements on LTCC

We proposed a 4×8 array antenna with aperture-coupled patch antenna elements. The antenna was designed for 60 GHz operation and fabrication on the low-temperature cofired ceramic(LTCC) substrate(εr=5.8). The feedline with the stub was designed to enhance the radiating element bandwidth and the transition characteristics between the waveguide (WG) and microstrip line(MSL). Through the optimization
