Reduced Prevalence of Diabetic Ketoacidosis at Diagnosis of Type 1 Diabetes in Young Children Participating in Longitudinal Follow-Up

OBJECTIVE-Young children have an unacceptably high prevalence of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at the clinical diagnosis of type I. diabetes. The aim of this study was to determine whether knowledge of genetic risk and close follow-up for development of islet autoantibodies through participation in The Environmental Determinants of Diabetes in the Young (TEDDY) study results in lower prevalence of D

DNA methylation of the glucagon-like peptide 1 receptor (GLP1R) in human pancreatic islets.

Insulin secretion is enhanced upon the binding of Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) to its receptor (GLP1R) in pancreatic β cells. Although a reduced expression of GLP1R in pancreatic islets from type 2 diabetic patients and hyperglycaemic rats has been established, it is still unknown if this is caused by differential DNA methylation of GLP1R in pancreatic islets of type 2 diabetic patients.

Det skriver statsvetaren Ardavan KhoshnPutin's invasion of Ukraine was - contrary to popular belief - highly anticipated and Putin's actions are in line with Russia's security policy strategy. Putin is neither crazy nor unpredictable. It is also too early to say that the Russian invasion has failed because there are many indications that the Russian strategy is to exhaust the opponent. This is what political scientist Ardavan Khoshnood

'Poland is catholic, and a pole is a catholic.' The oppressed evangelical masurians after the Second World War

The fate of the Masurian Lutherans in eastern Poland is one of the tragedies of modern Europe. This chapter monitors the various, and often contradictory, attempts to transform a group that often escaped attempts at cultural and political classification. During the post-WWII era, various efforts to support this group were made by the part of European co-religionists. In this chapter is found a fir

Fokus på individuell behandling vid akut koronart syndrom utan ST-höjning

New guidelines from the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) for the management of acute coronary syndromes in patients presenting without persistent ST-segment elevation (NSTEMI-ACS) stress the importance of more individualized diagnostics and therapy based on the patients' initial risk profile balancing risk of ischemia with risk of bleeding. In this commentary, the Working Group on Coronary Art

The curious case of online information search

In a rapidly digitalizing world, the increasing importance of online information channels is repeatedly stated. But little is known about the procedure of online information search. This study examines the process of booking a journey via digital devices. It is based on a multi-method approach including interview and experiment. Results show that tourists’ online searching behaviour is less ration

Pancreatic β-cell mRNA modification as a marker for type 2 diabetes

Diabetes mellitus invariably involves impaired regulation of insulin secretion from pancreatic β cells, as a result of unfavourable environmental influences in combination with aberrant expression of risk genes at either the transcriptional or the translational level. A recent report in Nature Metabolism explores a novel role of mRNA methylation in β-cell function and suggests that its downregulat
