Fundamental Frequency Estimation using the Shift-Invariance Property

In this paper, we propose a method for the estimation of the fundamental frequency of a periodic waveform based on the shift-invariance property of the sinusoidal signal model known from ESPRIT. An advantage of the proposed method is that the model order and the fundamental frequency can be found jointly and that the method does not depend on the density of the observation noise but rather on it b

Lactadherin binds to elastin - a starting point for medin amyloid formation?

Medin amyloid is found in the medial layer of the aorta in almost 100% of the Caucasian population over 50 years of age. The medin fragment is 5.5 kDa and derives from the C2-like domain of the precursor protein lactadherin. We have previously reported immunohistochemical findings showing that medin amyloid co-localizes with elastic fibers of arteries and herein we show that lactadherin also is as

Rhodium(I) hydrogenation in water: Kinetic studies and the detection of an intermediate using C-13{H-1} PHIPNMR spectroscopy

The mechanism for hydrogenation of dimethylmaleate in water using cationic rhodium complexes with water-soluble bi-dentate phosphines has been investigated using kinetics and a novel method for the indirect detection of intermediates in catalytic hydrogenation reactions, whereby a late intermediate was detected. A mechanism is proposed involving fast, irreversible substrate binding followed by a r

The synthesis and characterization of all diastereomers of a linear symmetrically fused tris-Troger's base analogue: New chiral cleft compounds

The synthesis and characterization of all diastereomers of a linear symmetrically fused tris-Troger's base analogue are described. The diastereomers are unambiguously assigned as syn-anti 1a, anti-anti 1b, and syn-syn 1c isomers, by using X-ray diffraction analysis and NMR spectroscopy. For the first time, the anti-anti and the syn-syn diastereomers of a linear symmetrically fused tris-Troger's ba

Furanosesquiterpenes from Commiphora sphaerocarpa and related adulterants of true myrrh

A new furanosesquiterpene, (1E)-8,12-epoxygermacra-1,7,10,11-tetraen-6-one (3), was isolated from the resin of Commiphora sphaerocarpa together with the known compounds curzerenone (1), furanodienone (2), (1E)-3-methoxy-8,12-epoxygermacra-1,7,10,11-tetraene-one (4), (1(10)E,2R(*),4R(*))-2-methoxy-8,12-epoxygermacra- 1(10),7,11-trien-6-one (5), and dihydropyrocurzerenone (6). Hydrodistillates of th

Subcutaneous apomorphine in late stage Parkinson's disease: a long term follow up

OBJECTIVES: Despite the recent introduction of new peroral drugs as well as neurosurgical methods for Parkinson's disease, treatment of late stage parkinsonian patients remains difficult and many patients become severely handicapped because of fluctuations in their motor status. Injections and infusions of apomorphine has been suggested as an alternative in the treatment of these patients, but the

Matching the electroweak penguins Q(7) and Q(8)

We report on recent advances on the computation of the matrix elements of the electroweak penguins Q(7) and Q(8) which are relevant for the DeltaI = 3/2 contribution to epsilon'(K) in the chiral limit. The matching of scale and scheme dependences between Wilson coefficients and these matrix elements is done analytically at NLO in alpha(S).

Quench analysis of a superconducting magnet with 98 coils connected in series

A novel insertion device for electron storage rings called the MAX-Wiggler has been constructed at MAX-lab. The MAX-Wiggler is a cold bore superconducting wiggler magnet with 47 3.5-T poles and. a period length of 61 mm aimed for the production of X-rays at the 1.5-GeV electron storage ring MAX-II at MAX-lab. The MAX-Wiggler consists of 98 racetrack coils connected in series in the superconducting

Imaging by delayed light-emission (phytoluminography) as a method for detecting damage to the photosynthetic system

An improved apparatus for obtaining luminescence (delayed light emission) images of plants is described. It consists of a phosphoroscope equipped with an imaging lens and an electronic image intensifier. It is also equipped with light-sources for obtaining images with reflected light and fluorescence light. Damage to the photosynthetic system caused by virus, insects, high or low temperature, UV r
