Comparing foreign accent and ”Rosengård Swedish”: some hypotheses and initial observations.

Within the research project ‘Language and language use among young people in multilingual urban settings’ (Lindberg 2004) my role is to describe SMG pronunciation, the pronunciation of ‘Swedish on Multilingual Ground’ (e.g. Rosengård Swedish). Thanks to means placed at my disposal by the Faculty of Humanities at Lund University, I am able to broaden my research field to include also a comparison o

QuikSCAT measurements and ECMWF wind forecasts - an explorative study

The aim of this paper is to study the covariance structure for the difference between satellite measurements and meteorological forecasts of near-surface ocean winds. This type of covariance enters in assimilation techniques such as Kalman filtering. I all, six residual fields are studied. Us of a Box-Cox transformation leads to approximately symmetrically distributed residual wind speed fields.

Novel and conventional biomarkers for prediction of incident cardiovascular events in the community.

CONTEXT: Prior studies have demonstrated conflicting results regarding how much information novel biomarkers add to cardiovascular risk assessment. OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the utility of contemporary biomarkers for predicting cardiovascular risk when added to conventional risk factors. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: Cohort study of 5067 participants (mean age, 58 years; 60% women) without cardi

Increased breast cancer risk at high plasma folate concentrations among women with the MTHFR 677T allele.

BACKGROUND: Folate is involved in DNA synthesis and methylation and may thereby influence carcinogenesis. OBJECTIVES: We examined plasma folate (P-folate) concentration in relation to genotypes of the folate-metabolizing enzyme methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase [MTHFR 677C<--T (rs1801133) and 1298A<--C (rs1801131)]. We also explored whether P-folate was associated with risk of postmenopausal bre

High rates of virological suppression in a cohort of human immunodeficiency virus-positive adults receiving antiretroviral therapy in ethiopian health centers irrespective of concomitant tuberculosis.

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) initiation during treatment for tuberculosis (TB) improves survival in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)/TB-coinfected patients. We compared virological suppression (VS) rates, mortality, and retention in care in HIV-positive adults receiving care in 5 Ethiopian health centers with regard to TB coinfection.

Early specification of dopaminergic phenotype during ES cell differentiation

BACKGROUND: Understanding how lineage choices are made during embryonic stem (ES) cell differentiation is critical for harnessing strategies for controlled production of therapeutic somatic cell types for cell transplantation and pharmaceutical drug screens. The in vitro generation of dopaminergic neurons, the type of cells lost in Parkinson's disease patients' brains, requires the inductive molec

miR-124 downregulation leads to breast cancer progression via LncRNA-MALAT1 regulation and CDK4/E2F1 signal activation.

The long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) metastasis-associated lung adenocarcinoma transcript 1 (MALAT1) has been recently shown to be dysregulated in several cancers. However, the mechanisms underlying the role of MALAT1 in breast cancer remain unclear. Herein, we showed that MALAT1 was aberrantly increased in breast cancer tissues and cells. MALAT1-siRNA inhibited breast cancer cell proliferation and ce

Impaired wound healing in an acute diabetic pig model and the effects of local hyperglycemia.

Diabetic wounds result in significant morbidity, prolonged hospitalization, and enormous health-care expenses. Pigs have been shown to have wound healing resembling that in humans. The aim of this study was to develop a large-animal model for diabetic wound healing. Diabetes was induced by streptozotocin injection in Yorkshire pigs. Full-thickness wounds were created and dressed with a sealed cham

A model of reconstruction for the oral apparatus of the Ordovician conodont genus Protopanderodus Lindström, 1971

Elements of the Ordovician conodont genus Protopanderodus have been investigated in order to provide a model of reconstruction for its oral apparatus. In total, 4202 elements from the five named species representing this genus in the Swedish Middle Ordovician are included in this study; P. rectus, P. parvibasis, P. graeai, P. robustus, and P. calceatus. The well-preserved specimens were studied in

Controlling Inventories in Divergent Supply Chains with Advance-Order Information

This paper considers a generic one-warehouse multiple-retailer inventory system under continuous review, where customers provide perfect advance-order information. More specifically, each customer order entails a due date specifying when the customer wants the item delivered. The information is perfect in the sense that a placed order cannot be revised. With the intent of using the advance-order i
