Westphal's thesis contains a summary of earlier structural analyses of Hebrews. Her own discourse analysis structures Hebrews into three parts 1) 1:1–4:16; 2) 4:11–7:28 and 8:1–10:25; 3) 10:19–13:25. Westphal characterizes Heb 4:11-16 and 10:19-25 as "overlapping" parts and as keys to the structure and meaning of Hebrews. The structure according to this approach is not new. A shortcoming in this t
