Communicating genetic information to family members : analysis of consent forms for diagnostic genomic sequencing

Communicating results from genomic sequencing to family members can play an essential role allowing access to surveillance, prevention, treatment or prophylactic measures. Yet, many patients struggle with communication of these results and it is unclear to what extent this is discussed during the consent process. We conducted an online systematic search and used content analysis to explore how con

Second-trimester transvaginal ultrasound measurement of cervical length for prediction of preterm birth : a blinded prospective multicentre diagnostic accuracy study

Objective: To estimate the diagnostic performance of sonographic cervical length for the prediction of preterm birth (PTB). Design: Prospective observational multicentre study. Setting: Seven Swedish ultrasound centres. Sample: A cohort of 11 456 asymptomatic women with a singleton pregnancy. Methods: Cervical length was measured with transvaginal ultrasound at 18–20 weeks of gestation (C×1) and a

Comparative cytological and histological assessment of 828 primary soft tissue and bone lesions, and proposal for a system for reporting soft tissue cytopathology

Introduction: The aim of the study was to evaluate the diagnostic utility of fine needle aspiration (FNA) cytology and core needle biopsies (CNBs) in a series of primary soft tissue and bone lesions and to test a possible system for reporting results of FNA cytology of soft tissue lesion. Methods: This retrospective study encompassed 828 primary soft tissue and bone lesions, analysed with FNA, CNB

A high-repetition rate attosecond light source for time-resolved coincidence spectroscopy

Attosecond pulses, produced through high-order harmonic generation in gases, have been successfully used for observing ultrafast, subfemtosecond electron dynamics in atoms, molecules and solid state systems. Today's typical attosecond sources, however, are often impaired by their low repetition rate and the resulting insufficient statistics, especially when the number of detectable events per shot

This paper proposes an advanced emergency control strategy for embedded VSC-HVDC links after AC disturbances, such as line tripping and generation loss. The control goals are to minimize the impact of the disturbance on the AC-network, which includes improving the long-term voltage stability with utilizing possible unloading capacity of parallel AC elements. The proposed algorithm is evaluated aga

The agricultural and industrial revolutions in England and China : A view through the lens of dynamic property rights theory

This article presents a dynamic land property rights theory based on the law of the limit to land productivity, and then uses this theory and a large amount of data to compare the history of the agricultural and industrial revolutions in England and China. The article finds that, in England, the arable land-especially sown land-per capita of the agricultural population trended downward before the

Asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation coupled to surface plasmon resonance detection for analysis of therapeutic proteins in blood serum

Coupling of surface plasmon resonance (SPR) detection to asymmetric flow field-flow fractionation (AF4) offers the possibility to study active fractions of bio-separations on real samples, such as serum and saliva, including the assessment of activity of possibly aggregated species. The coupling of SPR with AF4 requires the possibility to select fractions from a fractogram and redirect them to the

The association between decision-making skills and subjective decision outcomes among administrative officers in the Swedish Social Insurance Agency

Social insurance administrative officers’ decision-making skills influence their efficiency at work and their general well-being. At work their tasks are characterised by complexity and a need for order and accountability. Moreover, cases should usually be handled and finalised within the imposed time frames. We investigated skills related to decision-making success among social insurance officers

Kommunal samverkan under press - Hur sex skånska kommuner inkluderar nyanlända

Novel Method for Osmotic Conductance to Glucose in Peritoneal Dialysis

Introduction: The osmotic conductance to glucose (OCG) is a crucial determinant of ultrafiltration (UF) in peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and can be used to monitor membrane integrity in patients on long-term PD. It has been proposed that OCG can be assessed based on drained volumes in 2 consecutive 1-hour glucose dwells, usually 1.5% and 4.25% glucose, in a so-called double mini-peritoneal equ

Emerging biomarkers in cardiometabolic disease

AbstractThe epidemiological association between diabetes and heart failure is well-established and the two entities areemerging as global threats, both individually and synergistically, to an aging population. The exploration of multipleproteins can shed light on pathophysiological pathways in both diabetes and cardiovascular disease. This canpossibly provide novel diagnostic, prognostic and hopef

Lidar profiling biological targets : - Detection limits and dynamic range.

Here we present recent advances and applications of profiling biological targets with Scheimpflug lidar. In particular we demonstrate applications for profiling the aerofauna and classifying various groups of species. Based on lidar data over the Ivorian countryside we investigate range dependent detection limits by comparing data with distinct sample rates and pulse energies.

Sub-Structure Limits to Optical Phenomena

Fundamental limits on scattering metrics such as absorption, extinction, and Purcell's factor are formulated by separating a scattering structure into controllable and uncontrollable regions. We present each bound as a special case of a general methodology based on the method of moments and convex optimization.

Verifying Properties of Bit-vector Multiplication Using Cutting Planes Reasoning

Systems mixing Boolean logic and arithmetic have been a long-standing challenge for verification tools such as SAT-based bit-vector solvers. Though SAT solvers can be highly efficient for Boolean reasoning, they scale poorly once multiplication is involved. Algebraic methods using Gröbner basis reduction have recently been used to efficiently verify multiplier circuits in isolation, but generally

Elastin levels are higher in healing tendons than in intact tendons and influence tissue compliance

Elastic fibers containing elastin play an important role in tendon functionality, but the knowledge on presence and function of elastin during tendon healing is limited. The aim of this study was to investigate elastin content and distribution in intact and healing Achilles tendons and to understand how elastin influence the viscoelastic properties of tendons. The right Achilles tendon was complet
