Mechanisms of action underlying the antiandrogenic effects of the fungicide prochloraz
The fungicide prochloraz has got multiple mechanisms of action that may influence the demasculinizing and reproductive toxic effects of the compound. In the present study, Wistar rats were dosed perinatally with prochloraz (50 and 150 mg/kg/day) from gestational day (GD) 7 to postnatal day (PND) 16. Caesarian sections were performed on selected dams at GD 21, while others were allowed to give birt
Resection of colorectal liver metastases: 25-year experience
The aim of this retrospective study was to analyze survival and prognostic factors in 111 consecutive patients undergoing curative resection of liver metastases from colorectal cancer. In addition, the time periods 1971-1984 and 1985-1995 were compared; criteria for first liver resection did not change with time, whereas the attitude toward re-resection was more aggressive during the latter period
Determination of trace levels of dinitrophenolic compounds in environmental water samples using hollow fiber supported liquid membrane extraction and high performance liquid chromatography
A hollow fiber supported liquid membrane extraction method for the liquid chromatographic determination of dinitrophenolic compounds at ppt levels has been developed. Different variables affecting the extraction process, such as extraction time, shaking speed, acceptor pH, acceptor buffer concentration, salt content and humic acids have been studied. Enrichment factors up to 7000 times were obtain
Glued-in rods for timber structures - a 3D model and finite element parameter studies
A nonlinear 3D finite element model and a theoretical parameter study in relation to glued-in rods for timber structures are presented. A strain-softening crack band model was used to characterise the behaviour of the adhesive layer between the rod and the wood. The model is general in the sense that it bridges the gap between the theory of an ideal plastic bondline and the theory of linear elasti

Annual dynamics of reedbed passerines in Ria de Aveiro, Portugal, assessed by standardized mist-netting.
Seventy standardized ringing sessions were carried out from April 1997 to August 2000 in a reedbed in Ria de Aveiro at Salreu, Portugal. The variation in the abundance of the common species is described as well as some aspects of their weight dynamics. Both, number of birds and species were higher during summer and autumn, when passage migrants occur and the number of juveniles is high. The pre-br

Två generationer hyfsad småländska
The author (professor of Scandinavian linguistics, *1934, living in Lund or nearby) compares his own dialect with that of his mother (house-wife, *1912, living nearly all her life 15 kilometers outside Kalmar). Interestingly, he found very few differences. The article discusses why.

Sekundär emission från limmade beläggningar på betonggolv
En ny modell som beskriver samspelet mellan de olika materialen i ett golv lades fram på Chalmers i december 1998. I artikeln sammanfattas de olika delarna i modellen.
Past food habit change is related to obesity, lifestyle and socio-economic factors in the Malmo Diet and Cancer Cohort.
Objectives: To examine if obesity status and socio-economic and lifestyle factors are associated with self-reported past food habit change, and also whether the level of obesity depends on the reason for change. Design: Cross-sectional analysis within the Malmo Diet and Cancer (MDC) study using data from the baseline examination and the extensive socio-economic and lifestyle questionnaire includin
Four new species of Hieracium (Asteraceae) from southern Sweden
Three new species belonging to Hieracium sect. Hieracium, viz. H. argentarium, H. irmae and H. mucrodentatum, are described from the Swedish province of Värmland. In addition, H. acidolepis is described anew to accommodate the taxon hitherto known as H. acidotum (Dahlst.) Dahlst., because the type specimen (from Värmland) for that name has been shown to belong to a different species.
Dissociation of phosphorylase a activation and contractile activity in rat portal vein
Isometric force, glycogen phosphorylase activity and lactate production were measured under conditions known to alter intracellular Ca2+ and cAMP to assess the role of these messengers in the coordination of metabolism with contractility in rat portal vein. Total phosphorylase (a + b) activity, was independent of treatment. The activity ratio phosphorylase activity ratio in the presence of isoprot

Living in Unauthorized Settlements-Housing Improvement and Social Participation in Bolivia
Views and proposals on housing improvement and social participation in Latin America have gone through changes in the last decades. These changes are noteworthy. In general, the population living in settlements scheduled to be upgraded, and the people target for participatory action, did not have much say in policy making. Housing improvement and social participation issues are linked to the Law o

The role of leukotriene receptor signaling in inflammation and cancer
Leukotrienes (LTs) and prostaglandins (PGs) are metabolites of arachidonic acid that play major roles in various inflammatory conditions. The release of these mediators, by cells recruited to or present at the site of inflammation, modulate/influence the magnitude of the inflammatory response. A better understanding of eicosanoids and how their receptors trigger intracellular signaling during infl
