Inguinal Hernia Surgery in Men - Chronic Pain and Sexual Dysfunction

Life time occurrence of inguinal hernia is 30% of men. Most are symptomatic and will require surgical treatment. Operation will commonly cure the hernia but remaining chronic pain or new pain is seen in 10–15%. Groin pain due to an inguinal hernia can cause impairment of sexual functions. This is sparsely studied. The aim was to analyse postoperative long term chronic pain and sexual impairment in

Patients’ main concerns about having a sibling stem cell donor - A grounded theory study

Background: There is limited knowledge about the perspective of patients undergoing allogeneic haematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) about having a sibling as donor. It is essential to understand the main concerns of stem cell recipients in order to enable nurses to provide person-centred care. Objectives: The study aim was to explore patients’ main concerns about having a sibling stem c

Designing bimanual tangible interaction for stroke survivors

Stroke is a significant cause of long-term disability, impairing over 10 million peoples motor function, primarily on one side of the body every year. Whilst effective rehabilitation exercises can help recover and maintain some affected motor function, stroke survivors often do not carry out enough of these. Instead relying on their `good' side to carry out tasks. However, this leads to poor recov

Evidence for the associated production of the Higgs boson and a top quark pair with the ATLAS detector

A search for the associated production of the Higgs boson with a top quark pair (ttH) is reported. The search is performed in multilepton final states using a data set corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 36.1 fb-1 of proton-proton collision data recorded by the ATLAS experiment at a center-of-mass energy s=13 TeV at the Large Hadron Collider. Higgs boson decays to WW∗, ττ, and ZZ∗ are tar

Search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with top quarks and decaying into a b b pair in pp collisions at s =13 TeV with the ATLAS detector

A search for the standard model Higgs boson produced in association with a top-quark pair, ttH, is presented. The analysis uses 36.1 fb-1 of pp collision data at s=13 TeV collected with the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider in 2015 and 2016. The search targets the H→bb decay mode. The selected events contain either one or two electrons or muons from the top-quark decays, and are then cat

Legalizing human rights due diligence and the separation of entities principle

The chapter discusses the principle of legal separation of entities and its ramifications in the transnational human rights context. There have been calls to hold multinational enterprises accountable for human rights infringements in their global value chains. Some argue that lead firms should be subjected to a legal obligation of due diligence that would compel them to oversee subsidiaries and c

Pain, fatigue and well-being one to five years after lung transplantation - a nationwide cross-sectional study

RATIONALE AND AIM: Little is known about persistent pain after lung transplantation. Therefore, the aim was to present a multidimensional assessment of self-reported pain 1-5 years after lung transplantation and its relationship with fatigue and transplant-specific well-being.METHODS: This nationwide, cross-sectional cohort study is part of the self-management after thoracic transplantation study.

Using accelerometry to quantify prey attack and handling behaviours in piscivorous pike Esox lucius

Accelerometer technology was used to evaluate behaviours in the teleost ambush predator pike Esox lucius foraging on crucian carp Carassius carassius. Automated rule-based estimates of prey-size determined handling time were obtained and are compared with video-recorded behaviours. Solutions to tag attachment and the limitations imposed by battery-time and data-logging capacities are evaluated.

Globular C1q receptor (p33) binds and stabilizes pro-inflammatory MCP-1 : a novel mechanism for regulation of MCP-1 production and function

The protein gC1qR (globular C1q receptor), also named p33, was originally identified as a binding partner of the globular heads of C1q in the complement system. gC1qR/p33 is abundantly expressed in many cell types, but the functional importance of this protein is not completely understood. Here, we investigate the impact of gC1qR/p33 on the production and function of the pathophysiologically impor

Sedimentology of the Lower Ordovician (upper Tremadocian) Bjørkåsholmen Formation at Flagabro, southern Sweden

The Lower Ordovician Bjørkåsholmen Formation at Flagabro, Scania, southern Sweden, consists of a 0.8 m thick succession of carbonates with three siliciclastic mudstones, 5, 1 and 100 mm thick, intercalated in the central part of the unit. Carbonate and siliciclastic mudstone beds show both normal and inverse grading. The carbonates are mud-rich and subdivided into a mudstone, a wackestone and a pa

Interleukin-25 (IL-25) has a protective role in atherosclerosis development in the aortic arch in mice

Atherosclerosis is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by the entrapment of apolipoprotein B– containing lipoproteins in the arterial intima, leading to local inflammation. T helper (Th) cell 1–mediated immune responses have been associated with atherosclerosis, and the cytokine interleukin-25 (IL-25 or IL-17E) has been reported to potentially regulate Th1 cell– and Th17 cell–related immu

Chest-lead ST-J amplitudes using arm electrodes as reference instead of the Wilson central terminal in smartphone ECG applications : Influence on ST-elevation myocardial infarction criteria fulfillment

Background: "Smartphone 12-lead ECG" for the assessment of acute myocardial ischemia has recently been introduced. In the smartphone 12-lead ECG either the right or the left arm can be used as reference for the chest electrodes instead of the Wilson central terminal. These leads are labeled "CR leads" or "CL leads." We aimed to compare chest-lead ST-J amplitudes, using either CR or CL leads, to th
