Differential two-particle number and momentum correlations with the AMPT, UrQMD, and EPOS models in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN= 2.76 TeV

We report studies of charge-independent (CI) and charge-dependent (CD)two-particle differential number correlation functions, R2 (Δη,Δ℘), and transverse momentum correlation functions, P2 (Δη,Δ℘) of charged particles produced in Pb-Pb collisions at the LHC centre-of-mass energy √sNN= 2.76 TeV with the UrQMD, AMPT and EPOS models. Model predictions for R2 and P2 correlation functions are presented

Experience on design, fabrication and testing of a large grain ESS medium beta prototype cavity

We report on the design, fabrication and testing of an ESS Medium Beta prototype cavity made with Large Grain Niobium sheets sliced from an ingot provided by CBMM. The peculiar choices during the fabrication process related to the Large Grain Niobium material are described. We present also the results of the cavity test at cryogenic temperature and the dedicated quench diagnostic.

Multipacting study in INFN-LASA ESS medium-beta cavity

We present Multipacting studies in ESS Medium-Beta cavities of INFN-LASA design with both simulation and experimental results. The simulation on the ideal cavity shape with both FishPact and MultiPac2.1 codes shows that Multipacting appears in a very small region near equator where the weld seam exists. A simulation with more realistic cavity shape considering the weld seam at cell equators has al

Research activities towards a conversion of PETRA III into a diffraction limited synchrotron light source

At DESY the Synchrotron Light Source PETRA III offers scientists outstanding opportunities for experiments with hard X-rays of exceptionally high brilliance since 2009. Research activities have been started towards a future upgrade scenario of PETRA III which envisions the conversion of the PETRA ring into a ultra-low emittance hard X-ray radiation source: PETRA IV. The lattice design is aiming fo

Sarafu : A cryptocurrency for Kenyan rural communities

In June 2019, Ruddick was considering how to embed the management of a cryptocurrency in the rural Kenyan communities that were to use it. Initially introduced as paper currencies managed by a cooperative of rural residents, moving the currency system onto the blockchain implied a change in the monetary design. The case describes communal structures that organize economic life in rural Kenya, as w

Open XAL status report 2017

The Open XAL accelerator physics software platform is being developed through an international collaboration among several facilities since 2010. The goal of the collaboration is to establish Open XAL as a multi-purpose software platform supporting a broad range of tool and application development in accelerator physics (Open XAL also ships with a suite of general purpose accelerator applications)

Charged-particle multiplicity fluctuations in Pb–Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

Measurements of event-by-event fluctuations of charged-particle multiplicities in Pb–Pb collisions at sNN = 2.76 TeV using the ALICE detector at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC) are presented in the pseudorapidity range | η| < 0.8 and transverse momentum 0.2 < pT< 2.0 GeV/c. The amplitude of the fluctuations is expressed in terms of the variance normalized by the mean of the multiplicity distr

Gaming, substance use and distress within a cohort of online gamblers

BACKGROUND: The fifth edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) included Internet Gaming Disorder (IGD) as a tentative diagnosis and inquires for additional research. The research on gaming is inconsistent regarding measurement approach and diagnostic cut-offs. Some scholars suggest the core approach, accentuating some of the diagnostic criteria to avoid patholog

Experimental Evidence for an Attractive p-φ Interaction

This Letter presents the first experimental evidence of the attractive strong interaction between a proton and a φ meson. The result is obtained from two-particle correlations of combined p-φ p¯-φ pairs measured in high-multiplicity pp collisions at s=13 TeV by the ALICE Collaboration. The spin-averaged scattering length and effective range of the p-φ interaction are extracted from the fully corre

Fabrication and treatment of the ESS medium beta prototype cavities

In view of the Medium Beta series cavities production at the industry for the European Spallation Source project, INFN Milano - LASA design prototypes have been fully produced at Ettore Zanon S.p.A. with our supervision. Based on our experience on the production of 1.3 GHz and 3.9 GHz E-XFEL series cavities, we set-up and applied an "external" quality control activity of the overall production of

DYNAC : Extensions, updates, and upgrades

DYNAC [1] is a multi-particle beamline simulation code suitable for modelling of the motion of protons, heavy ions, or electrons, moving through linear accelerators and beam transport lines. In this paper, we document extensions written in Python. It will be shown how these Python extensions add a considerable amount of flexibility to DYNAC, while maintaining the calculation speeds available from

Residual gas in the vacuum system of the solaris 1.5 GeV electron storage ring

Solaris is a third generation light source constructed at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland. The machine was designed by the MAX IV Laboratory team. The replica of the 1.5 GeV storage ring with 96 m circumference of a vacuum system was successfully built and now the synchrotron facility is after the 3rd phase of commissioning. Recent installation of the Residual Gas Analyzer (RGA) in t

Quench and field emission diagnostics for the ESS medium-beta prototypes vertical tests at LASA

In order to investigate the possible causes of premature thermal breakdown and performance degradation, several diagnostic techniques have been employed during the vertical tests of the Fine and Large Grain ESS Medium Beta prototypes cavities. The whole equipment, which includes second sound, fast thermometry, photodiode x ray detectors and external NaI scintillator and proportional counter, is he

Self-consistent space charge tracking method based on lie transform

In this paper we propose to describe the self-force of a particles beam, known as space charge, as a Hamiltonian term dependent on the distribution of the particles' coordinates: Hsc ≡ Hsc(ρ(x, y, z)). This Hamiltonian is then used, together with the kinetic component Hk in a Lie transform to generate a transport map by e-L:Hk+Hsc: where the Lie operator: Hk + Hsc : is defined according to the Dra

Distribution and extreme loss analysis in the ESS linac : A statistical perspective

The report takes a statistical approach in the study of distribution evolution of the proton beam within the ESS linac and reports a new technique of pinpointing the non-linear space-charge effect of the propagating proton beam. By using the test statistic from the nonparametric Kolmogorov-Smirnov test the author visualises the change in the normalised distributions by looking at the supremum dist
