Courses in Swedish for international staff at MAX IV
During the autumn semester of 2025 and the spring semester of 2026, the Centre for Languages and Literature will offer Swedish language courses for international staff at MAX IV.
Courses will be available at level 1–3. Each course consists of 14 sessions at MAX IV and concludes with an oral and written examination. The written examination will take place at the Centre for Languages and Literature.
A beginner's course in Swedish will be offered this autumn at MAX IV and is planned to start on September 18. The course will take place on Thursdays from 14:15 to 16:30.
A course start for level 2 and/or 3 is determined by the number of applicants for those levels and a decision from the manager responsible at MAX IV.
After having successfully participated in a Swedish course, it is possible to contact the administrator to receive a certificate of achievement.
Level 1–3
Level 1 corresponds to level A1 on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), representing the ability to understand and use familiar everyday expressions and very basic phrases aimed at meeting concrete needs.
Level 2 corresponds to level A2, indicating the ability to understand sentences and frequently used expressions related to areas of most immediate relevance, as well as to communicate in simple and routine tasks requiring a direct exchange of information.
Level 3 corresponds to an early stage of level B1, reflecting the ability to understand the main points of clear standard input on familiar matters, and to produce simple connected text on topics that are familiar or of personal interest.
Placement test
If you have prior knowledge of Swedish, you may take a placement test for entry into level 2 or 3. Placement tests will be offered a couple of times during each semester. Level 1 is an absolute beginner's course, and no placement test is required for enrolment.
