I am a researcher and teacher in Anglophone literatures. I earned my doctoral degree from the English Faculty of the University of Oxford in 2009 (Coleridge and Kantian Ideas, Bloomsbury 2012). My research is guided by the question how reading literature can affect people's embodied lives. This interest currently translates into three main areas:
(1) I conduct research on the project "The Visceral Novel Reader" in literature, emotion and affect studies (DFG 422574378). This research grows out of my research in the Medical Humanities (King's College London 2011-13), in media studies and aesthetics (University of Constance 2014-16) and in narrative and cultural theory (University of Mainz 2016-22). I also work on (2) early nineteenth-century literature and philosophy together with scholars in Britain, Sweden and Turkey, and on (3) the intersections of medical and environmental humanities together with experts in Austria, Britain, Denmark, Finland, Sweden, and Switzerland.
