Both chimpanzees and humans spontaneously imitate each other's actions
This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. Copying the behaviour of others makes us effective learners and allow skills, knowledge and inventions to be passed on from one generation to the next. Imitation is therefore viewed as the key cognitive ability that enabled human culture to grow and create such things as language, technology, art and science. Decades

Potency-enhancing drugs linked to decreased risks in men with colorectal cancer
A new study from Lund University and Region Skåne in Sweden indicates that potency-enhancing PDE5 inhibitor drugs have an anti-cancer potential with the ability to improve the prognosis in patients with colorectal cancer. PDE5 inhibitors include a few approved drugs in which sildenafil (Viagra) is the most well-known. The article is published in Nature Communications. “Available preclinical eviden

Through fossil leaves, a step towards Jurassic Park
This article is over 5 years old, and the information may therefore be outdated. For the first time, researchers have succeeded in establishing the relationships between 200-million-year-old plants based on chemical fingerprints. Using infrared spectroscopy and statistical analysis of organic molecules in fossil leaves, they are opening up new perspectives on the dinosaur era. The unique results s

A new multipurpose on-off switch for inhibiting bacterial growth
Researchers in Lund have discovered an antitoxin mechanism that seems to be able to neutralise hundreds of different toxins and may protect bacteria against virus attacks. The mechanism has been named Panacea, after the Greek goddess of medicine whose name has become synonymous with universal cure. The understanding of bacterial toxin and antitoxin mechanisms will be crucial for the future success
