Topic: Regionalisation as EU Foreign Policy: The EU in the South Caucasus
Based on Tatia Dolidze’s recently published monograph, the presentation explores how the EU acts not only as a model of regional integration, but also as a foreign policy actor that helps shape regional political spaces. Using the South Caucasus as a case, it examines how EU policies and instruments have treated the region as a shared political space while at the same time differentiating between individual countries.

For decades, European integration has been a central political aspiration in Georgia, supported by a large part of society and embedded in the country’s foreign policy trajectory. Yet recent democratic backsliding, growing political polarisation, tensions with the EU, and concerns over the direction of domestic reforms have raised questions about the future of Georgia’s European path. Bringing together scholars from leading Georgian universities, this seminar reflects on the changing relationship between Georgia and the EU, the domestic and geopolitical factors shaping the country’s EU accession prospects, and what the apparent fading of the “European dream” means for Georgian democracy and the EU’s wider enlargement policy.

Topic: Politics in Russia
An overview of the main causes of the collapse of the Soviet Union and the development of post-Soviet Russian politics. The lecture examines key stages of governance, domestic factors such as interest groups and political culture, ideological concepts including Duginism and the “Russian World,” and the strategies and objectives of Russian foreign policy, including hybrid warfare.
