Geoelectrical imaging in the interpretation of geological conditions affecting quarry operations

Determination of the subsurface geology is very important for the rock quarry industry. This is primarily done by drilling and mapping. However, in Sweden, the bedrock is often completely covered by Quaternary sediments, making the prediction quite difficult. This study shows that electrical resistivity imaging together with induced polarization proved to be very efficient in detecting fracture fr

Do Adolescents Feel Worse Today ? – Comparing prevalence of Non-Suicidal Self-Injury and Disordered Eating From 2007 to 2023 in Swedish adolescents

Background The prevalence of mental health issues is rising, especially among youth. Research shows that diagnosable and subthreshold mood disorder symptoms are increasing. Notably, and particularly troublesome, there are indications that some mental health issues, such as non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) and disordered eating (DE) behaviors, have increased during the last decades, these reports, h

Analysis of background noise and boats noise detection in coastal areas

The underwater noise has a significant negative impact on marine animals. The EU has made efforts to keep noise emission within sustainable limits, but only in regards to boats with Automatic Identification System (AIS). The noise of recreational boats, which are the main noise emitter in coastal areas, is overlooked. Thus, there is a need to quantify the noise emitted by recreational boats and, iStudies have shown that the underwater noise undoubtedly has a negative impact on marine animals. The EU have made efforts to keep the noise emission within sustainable limits, but mainly in regards to commercial freight ships. This means that noise from recreational boats, which are the main noise emitter in coastal areas, are overlooked. The noise from recreational boats is also under-investigat

Public Reading and Aural Intensity : An Analysis of the Soundscape in John 1–4

This study investigates the public reading of New Testament writings in early Christian communities during the first two centuries C.E. from the perspective of the lectors who prepared and performed the readings. A survey of literary and pictorial sources from the Greek and Roman world indicates that only oratory and drama were delivered from memory, whereas most literary writings were read aloud

Deponeringen vid Albäck i Trelleborg, har sedan årsskiftet 2008/2009 upphört efter mer än 50 årsIn the south of Skåne about 500 kg of waste per person is produced every year. Nowadays waste is considered a resource of which more than 90 percent is recycled, reused, or used for energy-production. About three percent of the annual waste remains, and is deposited at landfills owned by the South Skåne Waste Company, Sysav. The Sysav landfill at Albäck in Trelleborg was in use from the 1950’s un

First Polarimetric Investigation of Malaria Mosquitos as Lidar Targets

In this work, we use a novel spectral polarimetric optical tomographic imaging goniometer (SPOTIG) to investigate the scattering properties of Anopheles malaria mosquitoes to aid in their detection and identification in entomological lidar applications. Mosquitoes were mounted on a turn table, on which they were illuminated from different angles with linearly polarized near infrared light and rota
