Self-service business intelligence (SSBI) is an emerging trend in organisations allowing users to become more autonomous in data exploration. Organisations are keen to provide such services for their employees due to its potential benefits. However, there is little empirical knowledge about the process of building a SSBI service and the role of users in this process. From an exploratory single cas

We investigate spin-dependent transport properties of a two-terminal electron waveguide, attached with a side arm, with Rashba spin-orbit interaction (SOI). The interference between the bound states in the side arm and the continuous states in the straight channel gives rise to broad valleys in the conductance spectrum. At these Fano antiresonances, a large transverse spin polarization can be crea

Quantum dot (QD)-metal oxide composite forms a "heart" of the QD-sensitized solar cells. It maintains light absorption and electron-hole separation in the system and has been therefore extensively studied. The interest is largely driven by a vision of harvesting the hot carrier energy before it is lost via relaxation. Despite of importance of the process, very little is known about the carrier rel

Density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT calculations have been performed on a set of 34 titanium dioxide clusters ((TiO2)(n) with n125) to investigate structural and electronic properties of nanostructured TiO2 (nano-TiO2) materials. The investigated clusters include models of the three low-energy polymorphic forms of TiO2 anatase, rutile, and brookite. A systematic comparison of cl

We have studied the influence of the InP spacer layer thickness on stacked InAs/InP quantum dots, using cross-sectional scanning tunnelling microscopy. We show that for a spacer layer thickness of up to 30 nm, the quantum dots are spatially correlated but for a separating distance of 50 nm the vertical ordering of the dots is lost. These values are the same as previously found for quantum dots in

This thesis uses various time-resolved spectroscopic techniques to study ultrafast charge carrier dynamics in colloidal CdSe quantum dots that are important both from a theoretical point of view and for their relevance for solar cell applications. Using 2D electronic spectroscopy, we follow charge carrier relaxation and tr

The temperature degradation in terahertz quantum cascade lasers is investigated with the focus on the role acoustic phonon scattering. A self-energy describing the electron-acoustic phonon interaction is derived and used to study the importance in transport and optical properties. We observe a strong degradation of the gain peak with temperature. Despite the very small coupling to electrons, the e

Scientific collaboration is an important part of conducting research. In this blog post, I would like to introduce my PhD topic as part of the Train2Wind ITN (Innovative Training Network) at the University of Copenhagen.

The strain distribution in InP quantum dots, coherently grown on a GaInP substrate, was determined by image analysis of high-resolution electron microscopy images. Image simulations were used to verify the obtained results. The measured strain values were compared with values obtained from finite element calculations, using the dot shape determined by electron microscopy. The measured and calculat

We have investigated spin accumulation in Ni/Au/Ni single-electron transistors assembled by atomic force microscopy. The fabrication technique is unique in that unconventional hybrid devices can be realized with unprecedented control, including real-time tunable tunnel resistances. A grid of Au disks, 30 nm in diameter and 30 nm thick, is prepared on a SiO2 surface by conventional e-beam writing.

A density functional theory study is presented regarding the energetics and the Mulliken population analyses of a quantum mechanical/molecular mechanical (QM/MM) system including multiple iron-sulfur clusters in the QM region. The [FeFe]-hydrogenase from Desulfovibrio desulfuricans was studied, and both the active site (an Fe6S6 assembly generally referred to as the H-cluster) and an ancillary Fe4

Longitudinal field (LF = 110 G) muon spin relaxation (mu SR) has been used to investigate the pressure dependence (P < 4.5 kbar) of paramagnetic spin fluctuations in the spin glass alloy Y(Mn0.95Al0.05)(2) via observation of the mu(+) spin depolarization. External mechanical force is seen to counteract the Al-induced chemical pressure, fully delocalizing the Mn moment and altering the nature of th

In the competitive landscape of the modern business world, human capital stands as the cornerstone of organizational success. Retaining talented employees, particularly within Generation Z due to their high demands and aspirations, poses a great chal-lenge for organizations. This study investigates the impact of employer branding strategies on the employment intentions for retention of Generation

New excited states have been observed in the neutron deficient isotope Ag-98 following the Ni-58+Cr-50-->Te-108* heavy-ion reaction. One of these states may be interpreted as a maximum spin aligned state of the pi g(9/2)(-3) nu vg(7/2) configuration. Other possible interpretations within the nuclear shell model are discussed as well.
