Multiphoton excitation of hot carriers generates multiexcitons that are probed as a function of the absolute number of photons absorbed. Standard assumptions of Auger recombination analyses fail for an average of 2 excitations.

Coherent folded acoustic phonons in a multilayered GaSb/InAs epitaxial heterostructure were generated by femtosecond laser pulses and studied by means of ultrafast x-ray diffraction. Coherent phonons excited simultaneously in the fundamental acoustic branch and the first back-folded branch were detected. This represents the first clear evidence for phonon branch folding based directly on the atomi

We report electrical characterization of quantum dots formed by introducing pairs of thin wurtzite (WZ) segments in zinc blende (ZB) InAs nanowires. Regular Coulomb oscillations are observed over a wide gate voltage span, indicating that WZ segments create significant barriers for electron transport. We find a direct correlation of transport properties with quantum dot length and corresponding gro

In a solid-state host, attractive electron-electron interactions can lead to the formation of local electron pairs which play an important role in the understanding of prominent phenomena such as high T c superconductivity and the pseudogap phase. Recently, evidence of a paired ground state without superconductivity was demonstrated at the level of single electrons in quantum dots at the interface

We have observed and investigated random telegraph noise in the photoluminescence (PL) from small InP quantum dots (QDs) in GaInP. Very few of the QDs exhibit switching between two states, which have similar total intensities, but distinctly different spectra. Usually, one of the states dominates at low excitation power and the other at high excitation power. The switching occurs on the time scale

In half-metallic systems, electronic conduction is mediated by a single spin species, offering enormous potential for spintronic devices. Here, using microscopic-area angle-resolved photoemission, we show that a spin-polarised two-dimensional hole gas is naturally realised in the polar magnetic semiconductor AgCrSe2 by an intrinsic self-doping at its CrSe2-terminated surface. Through comparison wi
