The essay aims at decoding the 1954 novel The Sound of Waves in relation to Mishima’s biography, political and aesthetic theory, arguing that his most serene artistic achievement is, in the end, a desperate self-deluding for various inner contradictions. In a minute hermeneutic approach the article identifies and interprets such defining issues as: suicide, loneliness, individualism, egoism, mater

We analyse the validity of a commonly used identification between structures of the virtual photon γ∗→ QQ¯ and vector meson V→ QQ¯ transitions. In the existing studies of S-wave vector-meson photoproduction in the literature, such an identification is typically performed in the light-front (LF) frame while the radial component of the meson wave function is rather postulated than computed from the

We show here the first colloidal synthesis of double perovskite Cs2AgInCl6 nanocrystals (NCs) with a control over their size distribution. In our approach, metal carboxylate precursors and ligands (oleylamine and oleic acid) are dissolved in diphenyl ether and reacted at 105 °C with benzoyl chloride. The resulting Cs2AgInCl6 NCs exhibit the expected double perovskite crystal structure, are stable

MSc projects at EMN

We can offer exciting experimental and theoretical MSc projects suitable for students with a background in physics, nano, electrical engineering or mathemathics. Integration of Vertical InAs Nanowire Transistors on Si using Template Assisted Selective Epitaxy. In this project we use a novel Si CMOS compatible technique to expitaxially grow InAs on metal films and fabricate vertical MOSFETs. The pr

International Fellows

BackgroundObservational data suggests that an anterior or apical left ventricular (LV) position in Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) is associated with worse outcome and higher likelihood of “non-response”. It is not known whether the benefits of optimizing LV lead position in a second procedure outweighs the procedural risks.ObjectiveTo evaluate the clinical effects of LV lead repositioning

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of experimental data on performance of a developed Bayesian algorithm tailored for orphan source search, estimating which parameters affect the accuracy of the algorithm. The algorithm can estimate the position and activity of a gamma-ray point source from experimental mobile gamma spectrometry data. Bayesian estimates were made for source p

Tungsten is a prime candidate material for use in plasma facing components in nuclear fusion reactors. This would entail weathering extreme conditions, such as high thermal loads and particle bombardment. It is of vital importance to understand how tungsten mechanically responds to these conditions, and how it is impacted by the defects that form. The current communication considers how the mechan

The decay of solutions to the Klein-Gordon equation is studied in two expanding cosmological spacetimes, namely (1) the de Sitter universe in flat Friedmann-Lemaitre-Robertson-Walker (FLRW) form, and (2) the cosmological region of the Reissner-Nordström-de Sitter (RNdS) model. Using energy methods, for initial data with finite higher order energies, bounds on the decay rates of the solution are ob

Segmented chip morphology has a significant influence on distribution of residual stress and surface topography on machined surface in machining difficult-to-cut materials. In this paper, Coupled Eulerian and Lagrangian (CEL) model is employed to investigate the effect of segmented chip on surface integrity (residual stress distribution and surface topography) in orthogonal machining of Inconel718

The Hjortspring boat is the only intact example of a prehistoric sewn plank boat ever found in Scandinavia. Built from lime wood planks lashed together with cordage, the boat represents the maritime technology used by some of Northern Europe’s earliest seafarers. This article reports new analysis of the cordage and caulking material used in the construction of the Hjortspring boat. We provide the

PhD programme

Postgraduate studies are a vital part of the Department's research activities. The PhD students work in close collaboration with their supervisors and colleagues in small research groups, which very often are parts of much larger international collaborations. Travels to conferences and visits to other institutes or observatories are natural ingredients of the education. Many of our postgraduate st

We demonstrate that exceptional points exist in fully transparent, optically "effectively" biaxial, anisotropic micro-cavities, fabricated using an uniaxial cavity material with its axis inclined to the Bragg mirror growth direction. This is similar to the existence of singular (optic) axes in absorbing biaxial crystals, but the lack of time reversal symmetry is mediated by the mode broadening, i.

In this work, we present a thorough analysis of scalar P -wave χQ0, Q = c, b quarkonia electromagnetic form factors for the γ∗γ∗→ χQ0 couplings, as well as their hadroproduction observables in k⊥-factorisation using the light-front (LF) potential approach for the quarkonium wave function. The electromagnetic form factors are presented as functions of photon virtualities. We discuss the role of the
