Structure Functions and general final state properties in the linked dipole chain model

We have in an earlier paper, [1], presented a generalization, the Linked Dipole Chain Model LDC, of the model developed by Ciafaloni-Catani-Fiorani-Marchesini, [2], to decribe the structure functions and the states in Deep Inelastic Scattering events. In this paper we would like to present an investigation of a set of general features of the LDC Model, viz the behaviour of the structure functions

Modelling of Mass and Heat Transport in Paper - Evaluation of Mechanisms and Shrinkage

In this work a one-dimensional model for the mass and heat transport in the thickness direction of paper has been developed. Solid-based coordinates were applied to simplify incorporation of shrinkage. Liquid diffusion, gas convection and vapour and air diffusion were incorporated as mass transport mechansims. In the heat balance the convective heat transport and heat conduction were included. Spe

Hereditary prostate cancer: clinical aspects

PURPOSE: We review the current epidemiological and genetic knowledge regarding hereditary prostate cancer, and outline its clinical implications. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Published articles on hereditary prostate cancer were identified using the MEDLINE data base. RESULTS: A risk of prostate cancer, particularly early onset disease, is strongly affected by family history (number of relatives with pr

Tailbiting codes: Bounds and search results

Tailbiting trellis representations of linear block codes with an arbitrary sectionalization of the time axis are studied. The notations of regular and irregular tailbiting codes are introduced and their maximal state complexities are lower-bounded. The asymptotic behavior of the derived bound is investigated. Furthermore, for regular tailbiting codes the product state complexity is lower-bounded.

Decrease in high density lipoprotein cholesterol during prolonged storage. CELL Study Group

Different studies on the stability of high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL) in frozen serum or plasma have yielded conflicting results, namely increase, decrease, or no change at all during prolonged storage under freezing conditions. As part of a major trial on lipid-lowering strategies we statistically demonstrated a time-related decrease in HDL cholesterol during storage up to 46 months at

A highly divergent mitochondrial DNA lineage of Microtus agrestis in southern Europe

The Mediterranean peninsulas constitute important areas for endemism and intraspecific variation, and are likely places for cryptic biodiversity. We assessed the phylogeographic pattern of field voles ( Microtus agrestis) in southern and central Europe by sequence analysis of a 385-bp fragment of the mitochondrial cytochrome b gene in 74 specimens from 44 localities. The majority of samples consis

Acoustoelastic Effects on the Resonance Frequencies of Prestressed Concrete Beams – Short-term Measurements

In this study resonant acoustic spectroscopy was applied during static loading and unloading of three prestressed concrete beams in the context of acoustoelasticity. At each load step multiple modes of vibration were measured using an accelerometer and a small impact source. It was found that the measured resonance frequencies increased with increasing compressive stress in a manner which can be p

Characterization of a 14Cr ODS steel by means of small punch and uniaxial testing with regard to creep and fatigue at elevated temperatures

A 14Cr ODS steel was characterized at elevated temperatures with regard to its behavior in small punch and uniaxial creep tests and in low cycle fatigue tests. A comparison of small punch and uniaxial creep tests at 650°C revealed a strong anisotropy of the material when strained parallel and perpendicular to the extrusion direction with rupture times being several orders of magnitude lower for th

Production, purification and detergent exchange of isotopically labeled Bacillus subtilis cytochrome b(558) (SdhC)

Cytochrome 6558 of the gram-positive bacterium Bacillus subtilis is the membrane anchor subunit of the succinate:quinone oxidoreductase of the citric acid cycle. The cytochrome consists of the SdhC polypeptide (202 residues) and two protoheme IX groups that function in transmembrane electron transfer to menaquinone. The general structure of the cytochrome is known from extensive experimental studi

Contribution of Antibody-based Protein Profiling to the Human Chromosome-centric Proteome Project (C-HPP)

A gene-centric Human Proteome Project has been proposed to characterize the human protein-coding genes in a chromosome-centered manner to understand human biology and disease. Here, we report on the protein evidence for all genes predicted from the genome sequence based on manual annotation from literature (UniProt), antibody-based profiling in cells, tissues and organs and analysis of the transcr
