Constructive friction? Exploring patterns between Educational Research and The Scholarship of Teaching and Learning

While educational research (EdR) and the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) are overlapping fields there remains considerable friction between the two. Shulman, (2011, p. 5), recounts a situation when an EdR colleague accused him “of contributing to the bastardization of the field by encouraging faculty members who were never trained to conduct educational or social science research to en

Lämna in

Wind and Wood : Affordances of Musical Instruments: The Example of the Simple-System Flute

The aim of this doctoral dissertation is to explore and describe the relationship and interaction between musicians and their instruments. In order to achieve a high level of detail, a certain instrument is in focus: the simple-system flute. Although primarily developed as a product of 19th-century Western art music, this instrument has since become established in other genres and traditions.EmpirThe aim of this doctoral dissertation is to explore and describe the relationship and interaction between musicians and their instruments. Environmental compensation as a policy tool in Swedish municipal planning

In the struggle to reach the national environmental policy objectives, environmental compensation has emerged as a possible policy tool that may contribute to achieving the objectives. In Sweden, environmental compensation is legally mandated mainly in cases of exploitation within Natura 2000 areas and nature reserves, which is handled through the Swedish Environmental Code. In contrast, regulator

'Brand Availability': Enhancing a Brand's Competitive Advantage

The purpose of this study is to explore the effects of vertical brand extensions on consumer perceptions and brand equity. The aim of this study is to take a strategic brand management perspective in order to answer two research questions: How does a vertical brand extension affect the brand? How does a vertical brand extension affect consumer perceptions of the core brand? The main finding in thi

AI i samhället

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can be understood as systems which show intelligent behaviour by analysing their environment and with some degree of autonomy act to reach certain goals. In colloquial language, AI has become an umbrella term for information technology, robotics, and digitalisation more broadly, including machine learning techniques enabling computers to improve themselves.  AI cArtificial Intelligence (AI) can be understood as systems which show intelligent behaviour by analysing their environment and with some degree of autonomy act to reach certain goals. Diurnal variation in methane flux in a low-arctic fen in Southwest Greenland

Scientific abstract: The study set out to investigate diurnal patterns in methane flux in a fen in Kobbefjord, Southwest Greenland and to link these to physical and biological parameters in the environment. Methane flux was measured using six chambers which recorded the flux every ten minutes from spring to autumn. Methane flux data from 2009 and 2010 were compared to photosynthetically active radA study of diurnal variations in methane flux in a fen in Kobbefjord in Southwest Greenland is presented. Four separate periods, each of one week, from the growing seasons of 2009 and 2010 were chosen. Methane flux data were compared to surface temperature, soil temperature and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR). Regression tests between surface temperature and methane flux produced highly

Comparative study between numerical and analytical groundwater modelling

This study compares analytical and numerical models for groundwater modelling. The focus of comparison is to investigate the change of the analytical results when there is only a partial penetration of the aquifer. Two methods of comparison are used, the first one consisting of calculating a radial distance from a shaft to the point where the drawdown is 0.3 meters with both models. The second metCan pen and paper groundwater models compete with computer programs? Could something as simple as a pen and paper equation on the back of an envelope compete with advanced and expensive computer programs? Surprisingly, the answer could be yes for sandy soils. When modelling how a construction project will affect the groundwater surface, it’s easy to assume that the more advanced the model is, the

Supported Mono- and Bimetallic Gold Nanoparticle Catalysts for Different Organic Transformations

Supported gold nanoparticles are emerging as an important class of catalysts for various organic transformations due to their tunable properties. This thesis embraces the fundamental studies of supported gold nanoparticles for different organic reactions from the viewpoint of understanding the role of synthesis methods, nature of carriers, and addition of second metal on the properties and functio
