Plastic production and disposal have excessively contributed to climate change and other environmental problems. Therefore, the green route for the production of recyclable polymers, which is industrially and economically practical, is indispensable. 2,5-furan dicarboxylic acid (FDCA) synthesised from 5-Hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) is a new alternative biobased resource for polymers. FDCA has been

The body shows impressive control capabilities in terms of the speed and the precision with which movements can be carried out under a wide variety of circumstances. The cerebellum and brainstem nuclei, including the cuneate nucleus, are believed to play a crucial role in this control. If these control mechanisms can be unveiled, this could yield important insights in not only medicine and neuroph

In patients admitted alive to hospital after cardiac arrest the most common mode of death is withdrawal of life sustaining therapy due to brain injury. This decicion is preceeed by multimodal neuroprognostication, which includes clinical examination, neurophysiological tests, imagning and serum markers of braininjury. The search for methods to ameliorate the brain injury after cardiac arrest is on

The aim of this multicenter study was to investigate whether a computer-assisted diagnosis (CAD) system could improve performance and reduce interobserver variation in bone-scan interpretations of the presence or absence of bone metastases. Methods: The whole-body bone scans (anterior and posterior views) of 59 patients with breast or prostate cancer who had undergone scintigraphy for suspected bo

Background and Aim: New SPECT cameras that use CZT detectors in a 360◦ configuration has recently been introduced. Together with Bayesian reconstruction methods employing Median Root Prior (MRP) and Relative Difference Prior (RDP), this constitutes an alternative to Anger-based SPECT for activity quantification. The aim of this thesis is to, by the use of both OS-EM and Bayesian reconstruction met

Background: The aim was to compare bias and precision for 177Lu-SPECT activity-concentration estimation using a dual-headed Anger SPECT system and a ring-configured CZT SPECT system. This was investigated for imaging at 208 keV and 113 keV, respectively. Methods: Phantom experiments were performed on a GE Discovery 670 system with 5/8’’ NaI(Tl) crystal (dual-headed Anger system) and a GE StarGuide

Background: Women with breast cancer have different chances of surviving their disease, depending on where they live. Variations in survival may stem from unequal access to prompt diagnosis, treatment and care. Implementation of the right to health may help remedy such inequalities. The right to health is enshrined in international human rights law, notably Article 12 of the International Covenant
Breast and ovarian cancers are complex and heterogeneous, and share several features, including genetic predisposition caused by BRCA1/2 mutations. Ovarian cancer is however associated with poor survival relative to breast cancer. Utilizing comprehensive biobanks, high-throughput omics methods and in vitro model systems we aim to advance our understanding of tumour evolution, disease heterogeneity
