Autonomic nervous dysfunction development in patients with primary Sjogren's syndrome: a follow-up study.

Objectives. To investigate autonomic dysfunction (AD) development in patients with primary SS (pSS) and the associations between AD and clinical, inflammatory and serological features of pSS. Methods. Twenty-seven patients with pSS, who had previously been evaluated for AD, were included in the study. The patients were studied at baseline and at follow-up by objective autonomic reflex tests (ARTs)

Lund Eye Tracking Studies in Research on Language and Cognition

The research group from Humanities laboratory at Lund University, Sweden, presents three strands of research on language and cognition where eye-tracking methodology has been used as a window on the mind. The paper includes: (1) eye tracking studies on picture viewing and picture description showing the dynamics of how speakers perceive, conceptualize and spontaneously describe complex visual scen

Nurses' Sociodemographic Background and Assessments of Individualized Care.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the association between nurses' characteristics (educational level, country, work title, gender, type of work, age, and length of working experience) and their assessments of individualized care. Design: A cross-sectional comparative survey using questionnaires was employed to sample nurses from seven countries. Methods: Data were collected from ort

Getting the balance right between functional and non-functional requirements: the case of requirement specification in IT procurement

IT procurement represents a business process of high importance, including the ability to articulate requirements that the procurement deals with. Furthermore, specifying requirements is of importance for both procurer and potential supplier, as it functions as central contractual element between the two. The purpose of this article is two-fold: (i) to show how established terminology for requirem

Urban snowmelt and runoff in northern Sweden

Snowmelt and runoff in urban areas in Lulea, north Sweden, are discussed and compared with rural conditions. The uneven snow distribution in cities is quantified. Energy fluxes at the snow surface in different environments are estimated. It is shown that, mainly because of increased absorbed radiative energy in the snow, the daily melt is about 10 mm higher in the city than in rural environments.

Linearity of bulk-controlled inverter ring VCO in weak and strong inversion

In this paper linearity of frequency modulation in voltage controlled inverter ring oscillators for non feedback sigma delta converter applications is studied. The linearity is studied through theoretical models of the oscillator operating at supply voltages above and below the threshold voltage of a transistor, bringing the transistors in respectively strong and weak inversion. The theoretical re

SIMULATED DOSE REDUCTION BY ADDING ARTIFICIAL NOISE TO MEASURED RAW DATA: A VALIDATION STUDY.

The purpose of this study was to verify and validate a noise simulation tool called Dose Tutor (VAMP GmbH) in terms of level and texture of the simulated noise. By adding artificial noise to measured computed tomography (CT) raw data, a scan acquired with a lower dose (mAs) than the actual one can be simulated. A homogeneous polyethylene phantom and an anthropomorphic chest phantom were scanned fo

Prestudy on diffusion and transient condensation of water vapor in cement mortar

The kinetics of sorption of water vapor in mature cement mortar are examined experimentally by the use of a sorption balance (DVS1000). The relative humidity in the sample chamber is obtained by mixing dry and saturated air using flow regulators with very high accuracy. A predefined change of relative humidity in the sample chamber can be obtained in about 30 s. The time needed for equilibration i

A real-time assimilation algorithm applied to near-surface ocean winds

Marine operations depend on the ability to forecast suddenly appearing storms and failures often cause great damage. As a part of a sea state alarm study, meteorological forecasts overlaid with satellite measurements sent to ships have been found to be a useful tool. In this paper we present a real-time assimilation algorithm that extends this tool using statistical methods. The algorithm is appli
