Valence and core level photoelectron spectra and Auger electron spectra of ammonia in pure clusters have been measured. The Auger electron spectra of gas-phase ammonia, pure ammonia clusters and ammonia in aqueous solution are compared and interpreted via ab initio calculations of the Auger spectrum of the ammonia monomer and dimer. The calculations reveal that the final two-hole valence states ca

Background: Induced resistance (IR) can be part of a sustainable plant protection strategy against important plant diseases. beta-aminobutyric acid (BABA) can induce resistance in a wide range of plants against several types of pathogens, including potato infected with Phytophthora infestans. However, the molecular mechanisms behind this are unclear and seem to be dependent on the system studied.

Selective doping of (M1) Mo7.8V1.2NbTe0.94O28.9 and (M2) Mo4.67V1.33Te1.82O19.82 phases with P significantly enhance acrylic acid yields (2-15%) in propane/propylene oxidation. Amorphous overlayers (Te-molybdate) seriously inhibit acrylic acid formation. Detailed mechanisms are presented.

The feasibility of measuring g-factors using the TDPAD method applied to high-energy, heavy fragmentation products is explored. The 2623 keV I-pi = 12(+) isomer in Pb-192 with tau = 1.57 mu s has been produced using the fragmentation of a 1 A GeV U-238 beam. The results presented demonstrate for the first time that such heavy nuclei produced in a fragmentation reaction with a relativistic beam are

Time-domain material characterization using a leaky lens antenna and an in-house fabricated millimeter-wave wavelet generator using III-V technology is investigated. The wavelet generator produces short high-frequency pulses and is connected to a wideband and non-dispersive leaky lens antenna. A purely time-domain methodology is used to extract the complex permittivity of non-dispersive and non-ma

We investigate the static and dynamical behavior of 1D interacting fermions in disordered Hubbard chains, contacted to semi-infinite leads. The chains are described via the repulsive Anderson-Hubbard Hamiltonian, using static and time-dependent lattice density-functional theory. The dynamical behavior of our quantum transport system is performed via an integration scheme available in the literatur

Scots pine tree-ring width (TRW) data from Jamtland in the Central Scandinavian Mountains has been used to reconstruct summer temperatures back to 1630 BC. However, it was recently shown that this reconstruction was of limited spatial importance. In this paper, we aim to explain this limitation in the TRW data as a temperature proxy, as well as assess the temperature information from new maximum l

In this paper we are concerned with the convergence analysis of splitting methods for nonautonomous abstract evolution equations. We introduce a framework that allows us to analyze the popular Lie, Peaceman-Rachford and Strang splittings for time dependent operators. Our framework is in particular suited for analyzing dimension splittings. The influence of boundary conditions is discussed.

Abstract in UndeterminedThe popularity of the Internet and marketers' increased investments in Internet advertising have raised some questions concerning a marketer's power to influence children and young people's consumption through new media technology. This article, based on a recent explorative study of 15-year-old Swedish teenagers, aims to discuss their exposure-potential, actual, and percei

The purpose of this thesis has been to study biological and social factors of importance for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). Thirty children (age 6-11) with ADHD were examined with parent ratings, neurological examination, cognitive testing, cerebral blood-flow, and EEG. These children together with 14 other children the same age with ADHD, were video-taped during family-tasks be

Capabilities-based planning and capability assessment are high on the agendas of several countries and organisations as part of their risk management and emergency preparedness. Despite this, few definitions of capability exist, and they are not easily related to concepts such as risk, vulnerability and resilience. The aim of the present study was thus to broaden the scientific basis of the risk f

The transverse momentum (p(T)) spectra and ratios of identified charged hadrons (pi(+/-), K-+/-, p, (p) over bar) produced in root s(NN) = 200 GeV Au + Au and d + Au collisions are reported in five different centrality classes for each collision species. The measurements of pions and protons are reported up to p(T) = 6 GeV/c (5 GeV/c), and the measurements of kaons are reported up to p(T) = 4 GeV/

Deputation compounds (DCs) are added to passive air samplers (PAS) prior to deployment to account for the wind-dependency of the sampling rate for gas-phase compounds. This correction is particularly useful for providing comparable data for samplers that are deployed in different environments and subject to different meteorological conditions such as wind speeds. Two types of PAS-the polyurethane

Based on the constructivist international relations (IR) approach, the authors study Sweden’s engagement with the DPRK as a unique case to understand motivations for engaging in a so-called fragile state. Besides having its embassy in Pyongyang and serving as a protecting power for the U.S., Sweden has provided capacity building programs for North Korean government officials and scholars. It has a

Reproductive events are associated with important physiologic changes, yet little is known about how reproductive factors influence long-term health in women. Our objective was to assess the relation of reproductive characteristics with all-cause and cause-specific mortality risk.

This study aimed at examine the number of planned and acute hospital admissions during 1 year among people 65+ and its relation to municipal care, outpatient care, multimorbidity, age and sex. Four thousand nine hundred and seven individuals having one or more admissions during 2001 were studied. Data were collected from two registers and comparisons were made between those having one, two and thr

This paper deals with the varying roles of producer services in economic transformation during the last 30 years in Sweden, and analyses unique longitudinal data on eight service sectors. The theoretical background for the analysis is inspired by the technology shift thesis of economic historians, and we show that the renewal and transformation of producer services has taken place later than for t

Despite a broad theoretical literature on multidimensional inequality and a widespread belief that welfare is not synonymous to income - not the least in a developing context - empirical inequality examinations rarely include several welfare attributes. We explore three techniques on how to evaluate multidimensional inequality using Zambian household data on consumption, education, health and land
