Riktlinjer i förlossningsvården påverkar barnmorskors yrkesidentitet

Ande

COVID Symptom Tracker app launched in Sweden

Researchers at Lund University in Sweden have launched a free app to help map the spread of infection in Sweden and increase knowledge of the coronavirus. “Data from the app will give us a clearer picture of the development of the disease and why some people only experience mild symptoms while others get seriously ill and die”, says Paul Franks, professor of genetic epidemiology. It takes approxim

Tommy Cedervall interviewed on nanoplastic

Tommy Cedervall has been interviewed about nanoplastics on two different occations during September. WHO issued a report on an analysis of current research related to microplastics in drinking-water and Tommy was interviewed on the need for more research because we do not yet know how nanoplastics affect humans and nature.Later a research report from McGill University concluded that nanoplastics l

Plastic nanoparticles affects fish brains

A new study by NanoLund researchers shows that plastic particles in water may end up inside fish brains. The plastic can cause brain damage, which is the likely cause of behavioural disorders observed in the fish.“Our study is the first to show that nanosized plastic particles can accumulate in fish brains”, says Tommy Cedervall, a chemistry researcher at Lund University. The Lund University resear

Donation for equipment for LED research

We are very happy to announce that the foundation LMK Stiftelsen has decided to support NanoLund with a donation of 5 MSEK for equipment for fabrication and characterisation of nanostructures. The donation is specifically motivated by research led by Lars Samuelson on light emitting diodes (LEDs) for energy-efficient, human-centered lighting. The equipment will be operated as part of our user faci

Two new nanolaboratories to be built

Two new nanofabrication facilities are scheduled to be built in Science Village Scandinavia neighboring MaxIV and ESS. One laboratory will be a bigger version of the Lund University run Lund NanoLab which is dedicated to education and blue sky research. The other is the ProNano facility which will belong to the RISE research Institute and house pilot production facilities.Read more in Sydsvenskan

Plastic waste disintegrates into nanoparticles

There is a considerable risk that plastic waste in the environment releases nano-sized particles known as nanoplastics, according to a new study from Lund University. NanoLund researchers studied what happened when takeaway coffee cup lids, for example, were subjected to mechanical breakdown, in an effort to mimic the degradation that happens to plastic in the ocean.“We have been able to show that
