Construct validity, floor and ceiling effects, data completeness and magnitude of change for the eight-item HAKIR questionnaire : a patient-reported outcome in the Swedish National Healthcare Quality Registry for hand surgery

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the construct validity, floor and ceiling effects, data completeness and magnitude of change over time for the eight-item patient questionnaire (HQ-8) in the Swedish Healthcare Quality Registry for hand surgery (HAKIR). Methods: Construct validity was investigated through predefined hypotheses and correlation statistics between the single items i

Carbon Cycle Data Assimilation and Inverse modelling

Model calibration and greenhouse gas emissions estimationsWe study the interactions between the atmosphere and the earth’s surface focussing on exchanges of carbon, water, and energy at the vegetated land surface. This also includes human interactions and perturbations to the Earth system such as the burning of fossil fuel. We do this by a methodology commonly referred to as model-data fusion. Our

Raccoons (Procyon lotor) in Sweden - A risk assessment for the establishment of the raccoon as an invasive alien species

Invasive alien species are organisms that have been introduced to an area outside their natural distribution range and threatens animals, habitats or humans in the new area. The raccoon (Procyon lotor) is a mesopredator originating from North and Central America that has been introduced in Europe and Asia. Since the first European introductions of raccoons in Germany, natural dispersal and pet tra

The immune cell atlas of human neuroblastoma

Understanding the complete immune cell composition of human neuroblastoma (NB) is crucial for the development of immunotherapeutics. Here, we perform single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) on 19 human NB samples coupled with multiplex immunohistochemistry, survival analysis, and comparison with normal fetal adrenal gland data. We provide a comprehensive immune cell landscape and characterize cell-

Human pancreatic islet three-dimensional chromatin architecture provides insights into the genetics of type 2 diabetes

Genetic studies promise to provide insight into the molecular mechanisms underlying type 2 diabetes (T2D). Variants associated with T2D are often located in tissue-specific enhancer clusters or super-enhancers. So far, such domains have been defined through clustering of enhancers in linear genome maps rather than in three-dimensional (3D) space. Furthermore, their target genes are often unknown.

The injured anterior cruciate ligament and neuromuscular rehabilitation

Patienterna slumpTwo prospective, short-term and long-term consecutive randomized studies on non-surgical treated patients with an ACL injury were performed. None of the patients were athletes on a professional level. Outcome measures : isometric muscle strength and isokinetic musclefunction, one-leg hop test, single limb balance, Lysholm knee score and Tegner activity level. In study number one 26 patients with n

Mossy fibre sprouting: evidence against a facilitatory role in epileptogenesis

Sprouting of mossy fibres from dentate granule cells occurs in several animal models of epilepsy and in epileptic humans. Mossy fibre sprouting might contribute to epileptogenesis but also could be a compensatory, inhibitory response. We analysed mossy fibre sprouting in the supragranular zone of the dentate gyrus using Timm's histochemical method in genetically fast and slow kindling rats. Before

Visual proteomics of the human pathogen Leptospira interrogans

Systems biology conceptualizes biological systems as dynamic networks of interacting elements, whereby functionally important properties are thought to emerge from the structure of such networks. Owing to the ubiquitous role of complexes of interacting proteins in biological systems, their subunit composition and temporal and spatial arrangement within the cell are of particular interest. 'Visual

The balance between the right to reindeer herding and other interests of land use in Sápmi - A labour- and human rights perspective on the situation of the Swedish Sami

In this thesis, the question of how to balance the right to reindeer herding against competing interests of land use in Sápmi in accordance with the indigenous rights of the Sami, will be examined. In order to answer this question other questions needs to be answered – What is the right to reindeer herding? Who is the holder of the right? Where can the right be exercised and finally, how can the rIn this thesis, the question of how to balance the right to reindeer herding against competing interests of land use in Sápmi in accordance with the indigenous rights of the Sami, will be examined. Development and evaluation of a machine learning prediction model for short-term mortality in patients with diabetes or hyperglycemia at emergency department admission

Background: Patients with diabetes admitted to emergency care face a higher risk of complications, including prolonged hospital stays, admissions to the intensive care unit and mortality. Aim: To develop a machine learning (ML) model to predict 30-day mortality in patients with diabetes admitted to the emergency department (ED). Design and setting: A cohort study utilizing data from all nine ED’s
