GEOMAGIA50.v3: 1. general structure and modifications to the archeological and volcanic database Recent advances in environmental magnetism and paleomagnetism

Background: GEOMAGIA50.v3 is a comprehensive online database providing access to published paleomagnetic, rock magnetic, and chronological data from a variety of materials that record Earth's magnetic field over the past 50 ka. Findings: Since its original release in 2006, the structure and function of the database have been updated and a significant number of data have been added. Notable modific

The Stollberg ore field - petrography, lithogeochemistry, mineral chemistry, and ore formation

De vulkaniska bergarterna och tillhörande malmer bilThe Paleoproterozoic Fe-Pb-Zn-Mn(-Ag) Stollberg deposit is situated in the Bergslagen region of south-central Sweden. 6.65 Mt of sphalerite, galena and manganiferous skarn magnetite ore occur as disseminations and semi-massive to massive ore bodies hosted by volcanogenic sediments and carbonate rocks. Field relations, mineralogy and geochemistry suggest that the felsic volcanic rocks at Stoll- be

Reduced Expression Level of Protein Phosphatase PPM1E Serves to Maintain Insulin Secretion in Type 2 Diabetes

Reversible phosphorylation is an important regulatory mechanism. Regulation of protein phosphorylation in β-cells has been extensively investigated, but less is known about protein dephosphorylation. To understand the role of protein dephosphorylation in β-cells and type 2 diabetes (T2D), we first examined mRNA expression of the type 2C family (PP2C) of protein phosphatases in islets from T2D dono

Instituting: Public Program

Instituting (Athens, 2021)What could processes of self-organizing and collective making look like in the current landscape? In what ways might they affect public processes of social improvisation? How might such forms of “instituting” give rise to other forms of institutions? Inviting theoretical as well as practical approaches, this edition of the New Alphabet School studies “instituting” as an i

The New NAO in Sweden – the Deprofession-alization of the Performance Auditor

Performance audit has become increasingly common in the public administration and every western democracy has today an independent National Audit Office (NAO). However, although the external requirements may be met, the functioning of these agencies may be jeopardized by internal and more subtle cultural factors relating to the role of the performance auditor. In Sweden, a new NAO called Riksrevis

Characterization of macular structure and function in two swedish families with genetically identified autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa

Purpose: To study the phenotype in two families with genetically identified autosomal dominant retinitis pigmentosa (adRP) focusing on macular structure and function. Methods: Clinical data were collected at the Department of Ophthalmology, Lund University, Sweden, for affected and unaffected family members from two pedigrees with adRP. Examinations included optical coherence tomography (OCT), ful

Multilocus species trees show the recent adaptive radiation of the mimetic heliconius butterflies

Müllerian mimicry among Neotropical Heliconiini butterflies is an excellent example of natural selection, associated with the diversification of a large continental-scale radiation. Some of the processes driving the evolution of mimicry rings are likely to generate incongruent phylogenetic signals across the assemblage, and thus pose a challenge for systematics. We use a data set of 22 mitochondri

Development of a novel AAK1 inhibitor via Kinobeads-based screening

A chemical proteomics approach using Ca2+/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase kinase (CaMKK) inhibitor–immobilized sepharose (TIM-063-Kinobeads) identified main targets such as CaMKKα/1 and β/2, and potential off-target kinases, including AP2-associated protein kinase 1 (AAK1), as TIM-063 interactants. Because TIM-063 interacted with the AAK1 catalytic domain and inhibited its enzymatic activity m

Microscopic insights of phase-transition-induced vapor transport enhancement in porous media

Vapor transport in porous media, often associated with liquid-vapor phase change, is an fundamental process in many emerging underground energy storage and extraction processes (i.e., seasonal solar thermal aquifer storage, geothermal extraction, extraterrestrial in-situ water extraction). By jointly using experimental imaging and numerical modeling at the micro-scale, we conduct mechanistic pore

The Flow of Everything

Groupexhibition.

Bcl-2 but not FOXP1, is an adverse risk factor in immunochemotherapy-treated non-germinal center diffuse large B-cell lymphomas

Non-germinal center (non-GC) phenotype, high level expression of the transcription factor forkhead box protein P1 (FOXP1) and anti-apoptotic protein Bcl-2 have been identified as unfavorable prognostic factors for diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients treated with chemotherapy. Our aim was to re-evaluate the prognostic impact of these biologic factors on the survival of the patients treat

Genomic investigation of alpha-synuclein multiplication and parkinsonism

Objective: Copy number variation is a common polymorphic phenomenon within the human genome. Although the majority of these events are non-deleterious they can also be highly pathogenic. Herein we characterize five families with parkinsonism that have been identified to harbor multiplication of the chromosomal 4q21 locus containing the a-synuclein gene (SNCA). Methods: A methodological approach us

I boken b

Molecular design of specific metal-binding peptide sequences from protein fragments: Theory and experiment

A novel strategy is presented for designing peptides with specific metal-ion chelation sites, based on linking computationally predicted ion-specific combinations of amino acid side chains coordinated at the vertices of the desired coordination polyhedron into a single polypeptide chain. With this aim, a series of computer programs have been written that 1) creates a structural combinatorial libra

Transcriptional analysis of mantle cell lymphoma - a global search for cellular origin and therapeutic targets

This thesis is based upon four original papers describing the characterisation of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) tumours and cell lines in comparison with different populations of normal B cells. Gene expression profiling, which were used in the studies, has during recent years developed as an important tool in characterisation of different types of malignancies. In this thesis, the technique is used

Investigation of image components affecting the detection of lung nodules in digital chest radiography

The aim of this work was to investigate and quantify the effects of system noise, nodule location, anatomical noise and anatomical background on the detection of lung nodules in different regions of the chest x-ray. Simulated lung nodules of diameter 10 mm but with varying detail contrast were randomly positioned in four different kinds of images: 1) clinical images collected with a 200 speed CR s

Demand and Supply of Information on Intangibles: The Case of Knowledge-Intense Companies

This doctoral thesis has its theoretical origin in the notion that the information flow between management teams, financial analysts and investors is especially exposed to information asymmetry when knowledge-intense companies are concerned. Information asymmetry may aggravate agency problems and risk causing an impairment of the efficient allocation of capital on the stock market. Therefore, the

Screening Method for the Discovery of Potential Bioactive Cysteine-Containing Peptides Using 3D Mass Mapping.

Animal venoms and toxins are a valuable source of bioactive peptides with pharmacologic relevance as potential drug leads. A large subset of biologically active peptides discovered up till now contain disulfide bridges that enhance stability and activity. To discover new members of this class of peptides, we developed a workflow screening specifically for those peptides that contain inter- and int

Prognostic significance of high hyperdiploid and tri-/tetraploid adult acute myeloid leukemia.

Purpose To ascertain the clinical implications of high hyperdiploid (HH; 49-65 chromosomes) and tri-/tetraploid (TT; >65 chromosomes) adult acute myeloid leukemia (AML), all such cases were retrieved from the Swedish AML Registry. Results Of the 3,654 cytogenetically informative cases diagnosed between January 1997 and May 2014, 68 (1.9%) were HH (n=50)/TT (n=18). Patients with HH/TT were older th
