The CCSD(T) Model With Cholesky Decomposition of Orbital Energy Denominators

A new implementation of the coupled cluster singles and doubles with approximate triples correction method [CCSD(T)] using Cholesky decomposition of the orbital energy denominators is described. The new algorithm reduces the scaling of CCSD(T) from N-7 to N-6, where N is the number of orbitals. The Cholesky decomposition is carried out using simple analytical expressions that allow us to evaluate

International Environmental Law and the Search for Harmony with Nature: A Critical Inquiry into the Metaphysical Underpinnings of the Legal Discourse on Environmental Protection

Both public and private interests claim that present-day standards and technology have proven insufficient for saving the natural environment. From this claim has emerged a call that entreats us to approach the problem of the deteriorating natural environment by i

Characterization of two novel cutaneous human papillomaviruses, HPV93 and HPV96.

Two novel human papillomaviruses (HPVs), HPV93 and HPV96, with genomes of 7450 and 7438 bp, respectively, are described. The Ll open reading frame of HPV93 showed highest identity to HPV24 (79%) and that of HPV96 had highest identity to HPV92 (71 %). Real-time PCR for HPV92, 93 and 96 on stripped biopsies from tumours and healthy skin from 269 immunocompetent patients found HPV DNA in 2.6 % of tum

Silica filled poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) nanocomposite membranes: Relation between the transport of gases and structural characteristics

The performance of poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) (PTMSP)/silica nanocomposites was studied for membranes with a filler content between 0 and 50 wt%. An increase in permeability and a decrease in vapor selectivity was measured with increasing filler content. The free volume sizes and interstitial mesopore sizes of the composites were determined by use of positron annihilation lifetime spectrosco

Core localization and sigma( *) delocalization in the O 1s core-excited sulfur dioxide molecule.

Electron-ion-ion coincidence measurements of sulfur dioxide at discrete resonances near the O 1s ionization edge are reported. The spectra are analyzed using a model based upon molecular symmetry and on the geometry of the molecule. We find clear evidence for molecular alignment that can be ascribed to symmetry properties of the ground and core-excited states. Configuration interaction (CI) calcul

Striated domain self-organizing ordered assemblies of transmembrane α-helical peptides and lipids in bilayers

This review summarizes the knowledge on striated domains, which are ordered assemblies of transmembrane peptides and lipids under gel-state conditions. The structure, mechanism of function and utility of this system as a model for domain formation is described, resulting in a molecular description of the domains and a discussion on the relevance of these insights for the function/formation and str

Congenital oral mucosal abnormalities in true umbilical cord knots

Objective: The pathogenesis and clinical significance of true umbilical cord knots remain controversial. Here, we tested the hypothesis of the presence of congenital oral mucosal changes in newborns with true umbilical cord knots. Study design: Seven consecutive infants with true umbilical cord knots and 50 gestational age- and sex-matched controls were enrolled. The proportion of oral frenulum ab

Peak torque and knee kinematics during gait after eccentric isokinetic training of quadriceps in healthy subjects

Objective: To evaluate the effects of eccentric isokinetic training on knee range of motion (ROM) of healthy subjects. Methods: The knee extensor and flexor isokinetic peak torques and ROM of flexion/extension and varus/valgus knee movements during gait of 18 healthy men (21.7 +/- 2.2 years; 1.73 +/- 0.10m; 68.7 +/- 9.4kg; body mass index: 22.6 +/- 2 kg/m(2)) were analyzed, before and after six we

Plasma apolipoprotein M is reduced in metabolic syndrome but does not predict intima media thickness

Background: Apolipoprotein (apo) M may exert anti-atherogenic properties in experimental studies. Its hepatic gene expression may be linked to glucose and lipid metabolism. Plasma apoM is decreased in obese mouse models. We hypothesized that plasma apoM is lower in metabolic syndrome (MetS) subjects, and determined whether intima media thickness (IMT) is associated with apoM. Methods: In 19 non-di

Effect of the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) receptor antagonist telcagepant in human cranial arteries.

INTRODUCTION: Calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) is a neuronal messenger in intracranial sensory nerves and is considered to play a significant role in migraine pathophysiology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We investigated the effect of the CGRP receptor antagonist, telcagepant, on CGRP-induced cranial vasodilatation in human isolated cerebral and middle meningeal arteries. We also studied the expre

Taking sanctioning seriously : The impact of sanctions on the resilience of historical commons in Europe

In their studies of collective exploitation of common-pool resources, Ostrom and other scholars have stressed the importance of sanctioning as an essential method for preventing overuse and, eventually, the collapse of commons. However, most of the available evidence is based on data covering a relatively small period in history, and thus does not inform us about the evolution of rules, including

Shifts in honeybee foraging reveal historical changes in floral resources

Decreasing floral resources as a result of habitat loss is one of the key factors in the decline of pollinating insects worldwide. Understanding which plants pollinators use is vital to inform the provision of appropriate floral resources to help prevent pollinator loss. Using a globally important pollinator, the honeybee, we show how changes in agricultural intensification, crop use and the sprea

Det finns bärkraftiga argument att samma skyddsnivå som avses i direktivet uppfylls indirekt genom de svenska arbetsrättCurrent Swedish labor rules may be on a collision with the European legal rules concerning time-limited employments arising from the EU directive 99/70/EC. The view of the European commission is that the directive has not been fulfilled and properly incorporated in the national rules. There are valid arguments that the level of protection as intended in the directive is achieved, regardless of the

Redan som lagförslag fick regleringen hård kritik och många menade att den kan stå i strid med egendomsskyddet i artikel 1 i tilläggsprotokoll 1 i europakonventionen om de mänsOn the 5th of February 2016, an act entered into force in Denmark that give the Police the right to confiscate asylum seekers’ and other aliens’ property in order to use them to cover costs that the authorities might have for their accommodation, health care and other living-costs. Before the act had formally passed, it was subjected to extensive critique. Some critics pointed out that the new leg

The Energy Performance Gap - A Swedish Perspective

Literature reviews from different countries show that the difference between the calculated and measured energy use of the building, often known as “energy performance gap”, can be as high as 100-200%. Knowing the size of the building energy performance gap, if it exists, along with its underlying causes will enable professionals to make more informed assumptions and produce better predictions. As

Building Energy Performance Gap: Different Approaches for Mitigation

The persistent Energy Performance Gap (EPG) in buildings poses a major obstacle to achieving predicted energy savings and sustainability targets. This study provides a comprehensive review of EPG root causes and mitigation strategies across the building life cycle, encompassing the design, construction, and operation phases. Technical and soft mitigation measures were synthesized, including smart
