Vår enhet bedriver forskning inom beroende av alkohol, narkotika, läkemedel, och inom spelberoende och andra icke-substansberoenden. Vår forskning har också ett uttalat fokus på samsjuklighet och andra problem med nära koppling till beroende, inkusive psykiatriska sjukdomar, kroppsliga sjukdomar, sociala problem och kriminalitet. Traumatisk hjärnskada (THS) är en vanlig orsak till död och kvarstående handikapp och idag saknas effektiva behandlingar. Vår forskargrupp använder experimentella och kliniska tekniker att studera THS, från de allra svåraste skadorna till de mer milda skadorna som kan ses exempelvis efter hjärnskakning inom idrotten.
