Alienating Narratives - The professional Challenge of Preventing and Responding to Sexual Vulnerability Amongst Unaccompanied Refugee Minors in Sweden

This thesis explores the reception system for unaccompanied refugee minors (URMs) in Sweden, with a focus on preventive and responsive measures to sexual violence. The aim is to understand the professional challenges of actively working against sexual vulnerability and violence. Furthermore, it explores the interrelation between changes in laws and legislation and shifts in the public discourse, w

Trots betongens stora inverkan på klimatet fortsätter byggbranschen aThe study focuses on the organizational work of reuse of concrete elements. Reusing concrete elements in new buildings could be one of the solutions of how the construction sector becomes more environmentally friendly. Throughout this study factors like political decisions, governmental instruments, laws and regulations as well as cooperation between organizations within the construction sector ar

Historiskinsamling rapport digital

Aim: FLOOD RISK IMPLICAIONS OF PLANNING STRATEGY IN SEVERN CACTHMENT – HOW SUSTAINABLE IS IT? Arjun Thirunavukarasu 2 Abstract The planning system has a huge bearing on the future development of flood risk. As such, flood risk implications should be considered when planning strategy is produced. This is particularly relevant to the UK, where flooding is expected to increase due to climate change (

State led agricultural development and change in Yogyakarta 1973-1996

In the early 1990s, Indonesia was seen as one of the post war success stories. The country was boasting an impressive growth record and had seen the number of poor continuously decline. This picture of Indonesia stood in stark contrast to the situation only 30 years earlier when the economy was in a shambles and starvation was a real threat. At the core of this change in Indonesia lies the transfo

Multicriteria evaluation of discharge simulation in Dynamic Global Vegetation Models

In this study, we assessed the performance of discharge simulations by coupling the runoff from seven Dynamic Global Vegetation Models (DGVMs; LPJ, ORCHIDEE, Sheffield-DGVM, TRIFFID, LPJ-GUESS, CLM4CN, and OCN) to one river routing model for 16 large river basins. The results show that the seasonal cycle of river discharge is generally modeled well in the low and middle latitudes but not in the hi

Long-term temporal and spatial trends in eutrophication status of the Baltic Sea

Much of the Baltic Sea is currently classified as 'affected by eutrophication'. The causes for this are twofold. First, current levels of nutrient inputs (nitrogen and phosphorus) from human activities exceed the natural processing capacity with an accumulation of nutrients in the Baltic Sea over the last 50-100 years. Secondly, the Baltic Sea is naturally susceptible to nutrient enrichment due to

Assessing sources of uncertainty in formaldehyde air mass factors over tropical South America: Implications for top-down isoprene emission estimates

We use a nested-grid version of the GEOS-Chem chemistry transport model, constrained by isoprene emissions from the Model of Emissions of Gases and Aerosols from Nature (MEGAN), and the Lund-Potsdam-Jena General Ecosystem Simulator (LPJ-GUESS) bottom-up inventories, to evaluate the impact that surface isoprene emissions have on formaldehyde (HCHO) air-mass factors (AMFs) and vertical column densit

Performance-based design of road tunnel fire safety: Proposal of new Swedish framework

This paper contains a proposal of new Swedish framework for performance-based design of road tunnel fire safety derived from Swedish and European regulation. The overall purpose of the guideline is to protect life, health, property, environment, and key societal functions from fire. The guideline is structured into five key groups of requirements: #1 Proper management and organisation, #2 to limit

Reglering av värmesystem i flerbostadshus med individuell värmemätning

Indoor temperatures in multifamily houses are indirectly controlled by the outdoor temperature. The radiator supply temperature is a function of the outdoor temperature. This control principle cannot take into account for disturbances from people, electric appliances, airing, sun, and air leakage due to wind. A control setting with a suitable margin can avoid complaints, but may result in overheat

Climate change impacts on groundwater and dependent ecosystems

Aquifers and groundwater-dependent ecosystems (GDEs) are facing increasing pressure from water consumption, irrigation and climate change. These pressures modify groundwater levels and their temporal patterns and threaten vital ecosystem services such as arable land irrigation and ecosystem water requirements, especially during droughts. This review examines climate change effects on groundwater a

Mapping the narrative positions of new political groups under the UNFCCC

Since 2009, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) regime has seen the emergence of several new political groups. This article analyses how the new political groups are positioning themselves in relation to the key UNFCCC principles (the North–South divide and ‘common but differentiated responsibility and respective capabilities’, CBDR/ RC). Drawing on original data, in

Influences of space, soil, nematodes and plants on microbial community composition of chalk grassland soils

P>Microbial communities respond to a variety of environmental factors related to resources (e.g. plant and soil organic matter), habitat (e.g. soil characteristics) and predation (e.g. nematodes, protozoa and viruses). However, the relative contribution of these factors on microbial community composition is poorly understood. Here, we sampled soils from 30 chalk grassland fields located in three d

Lactic acid bacterial symbionts in honeybees - an unknown key to honey's antimicrobial and therapeutic activities.

Could honeybees' most valuable contribution to mankind besides pollination services be alternative tools against infections? Today, due to the emerging antibiotic-resistant pathogens, we are facing a new era of searching for alternative tools against infections. Natural products such as honey have been applied against human's infections for millennia without sufficient scientific evidence. A uniqu

The pros and cons of anthropomorphism

Much of the animal ethics and welfare debate today is accused of anthropomorphism, i.e. that human mental states are ascribed to animals. It is generally claimed that these attitudes does no service to animals, since they, according to many natural scientists, usually fail to recognize what animals really are, that animals' needs and responses are actually very different from humans'. The damaging

Occupational health epidemiology in the Nordic countries – status and trends

This overview aims to give an indication of the current status and trends in occupational health epidemiology in the Nordic countries. As indicated by recent biometric reviews, Nordic countries currently rank among the top five globally in terms of research output on the work environment. However, birth-cohort effects and rapid change in institutions and funding may seriously jeopardize this posit

Biochar increases soil microbial biomass but has variable effects on microbial diversity : A meta-analysis

Biochar has been extensively studied as a soil amendment for carbon sequestration and for improving soil quality; however, a systematic understanding of the responses of soil microbial biomass and diversity to biochar addition is lacking. Here, a meta-analysis of 999 paired data points from 194 studies shows that biochar increases microbial biomass but has variable effects on microbial diversity.

Evaluation of a feedback control method for hydronic heating systems based on indoor temperature measurements

Indoor temperatures in apartment blocks are often indirectly controlled by the outdoor temperature using a feedforward control loop, in which the radiator supply temperature is a function of the outdoor tem- perature. However, this control principle cannot take into account heat gains or losses caused by tenants, electrical appliances, the sun, air leakage, etc., which may result in uneven indoor Indoor temperatures in apartment blocks are often indirectly controlled by the outdoor temperature using a feedforward control loop, in which the radiator supply temperature is a function of the outdoor temperature.
