This contribution deals with a specific ritual expression among the Sámi, the bear grave.Brown bears were sacred in the Sámi society. They were hunted, killed, and then consumed duringa feast. Many spatial audio applications, including active noise control, virtual reality, and the generation of individual sound zones, rely on an understanding of acoustic propagation. In room acoustics, which is the focus of this thesis, the sound field generated by a point source is typically modelled as a linear time-invariant system, described by its room impulse response (RIR). The RIR captures the r

PPC is a new combustion concept that combines high efficiency with low emissions. This thesis is based on experiments conducted with a heavy duty PPC engine that was ran on neat methanol. A fuel that might be a candidate for future engine propulsion in large scale. By varying the inlet pressure, the corresponding inlet temperatures were found for premixed combustion, i.e. combustion in HCCI mode.

In this article, I consider the use of seemingly old nominative forms (ONF) in object position. The phenomenon is noted for the dialects of Västerbotten (in Northern Sweden) by several authors. We study opinion evolution in networks of stubborn agents discussing a sequence of issues, modeled through the so called concatenated Friedkin-Johnsen (FJ) model. It is concatenated in the sense that agents’ opinions evolve for each issue, and the final opinion is then taken as a starting point for the next issue. We consider the scenario where agents also take a vote at the end of each issue and We study opinion evolution in networks of stubborn agents discussing a sequence of issues, modeled through the so called concatenated Friedkin-Johnsen (FJ) model. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) studies are valuable tools for identifying high impact processes and redesigning supply chains. However, LCAs have limits, in the sense that they offer insight into relative sustainability and don't question whether a product, or its use, is sustainable in absolute terms. In this intentionally provocative paper, you join Emma, a fictional average American 15-year-old, a

Abstract in Undetermined How signal diversity evolves under stabilizing selection in a pheromone-based mate recognition system is a conundrum. Female moths produce two major types of sex pheromones, i.e., long-chain acetates, alcohols and aldehydes (Type I) and polyenic hydrocarbons and epoxides (Type II), along different biosynthetic pathways. Amartya Sen argues that the overarching goal of development is expanding people’s choices. Yet, freedom as a goal is ambiguous as the notion is clouded by idioms of freedom dating as far back as Ancient Greece. Thus, since Sen claims to have universalist presumptions, this thesis discusses and analyzes Sen’s notion of freedom from a classical philosophical perspective – mainly drawing from Leo Str

This work shows a contribution to a long-term study of lead in smelter workers where the objectives were to assess the historical lead (Pb) exposure and to study the relationships between lead concentrations in finger bone (Bone-Pb), whole blood (B-Pb), plasma (P-Pb), urine (U-Pb) and the duration of employment in workers at a secondary lead smelter. Moreover, results were compared with previous s
