1 2 This essay explores the ethics of everyday life living as a professional scientist in a now ongoing research project (named Pre-H) explicitly focused on user participation. The ethical system of philosopher-theologian K. E. Løgstrup (1905-1981) is applied, with a focus on the sovereign expressions of life, and used to interpret four professional scientists lived experiences. Løgstrup used his

The Legal Profession in Times of Change

This thesis investigates the legal professionals in Spain during the transitional period from the ancien régime to the liberal state, a period marked by institutional rupture, ideological conflict, and social reconfiguration. The study has the primary aim to understand how the legal professionals contributed, perceived, and resisted the extensive legal changes that took place approximately two cen

Remote fluorescence lidar imaging of monuments: the Coliseum and the Lateran Baptistery in Rome

On site remote laser-induced fluorescence measurements have been performed with application towards non-movable objects. This paper describes the application of non-invasive hyperspectral fluorescence imaging to two masonry monuments, the Coliseum and the Lateran Baptistery in Rome, during a joint Italian-Swedish experiment. The mobile systems of Lund Institute of Technology, Sweden, and CNR-IFAC,

Monitoring of cerebral oximetry in patients with postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome

AIMS : Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a disorder of unknown aetiology characterized by orthostatic intolerance and tachycardia with diverse other symptoms, including neurocognitive deficits. Cerebral oximetry non-invasively measures cerebral tissue saturation (SctO2) and has been shown to be informative in syncope evaluation. We aimed to assess SctO2 in POTS patients and those

Designing bimanual tangible interaction for stroke survivors

Stroke is a significant cause of long-term disability, impairing over 10 million peoples motor function, primarily on one side of the body every year. Whilst effective rehabilitation exercises can help recover and maintain some affected motor function, stroke survivors often do not carry out enough of these. Instead relying on their `good' side to carry out tasks. However, this leads to poor recov

Review of the inclusion of SRHR interventions in essential packages of health services in low- and lower-middle income countries

Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and universal health coverage (UHC) are fundamental to health as a human right. One way that countries operationalise UHC is through the development of an essential package of health services (EPHS), which describes a list of clinical and public health services that a government aspires to provide for their population. This study reviews the content

Application of lean methods into design process of large power transformers

The paper presents application of lean engineering methods at design process re-engineering. Lean principles are harder to implement in an one-of-a-kind production environment rather than in an environment of a serial production, where there are almost no changes during production process. There are considerable differences in value-added activities that characterize lean production on one hand an

Reference models for concurrent engineering implementation in individual, serial and mass production

Application of concurrent engineering (CE) to product development process (PDP) has to consider the type of production (individual, serial, mass), product complexity and level of design: original, innovative, variation and adaptive. Systematic analyses of product development processes, workflows, data and project management, in various companies, has shown that specific criteria have to be fulfill

Estimating Uncertainty in Time-difference and Doppler Estimates

Sound and radio can be used to estimate the distance between a transmitter and a sender by correlating the emitted and received signal. Alternatively by correlating two received signals it is possible to estimate distance difference. Such methods can be divided into methods that are robust to noise and reverberation, but give limited precision and sub-sample refinements that are sensitive to noiseSound and radio can be used to estimate the distance between a transmitter and a sender by correlating the emitted and received signal. Modeling of energy consumption in GPS receivers for power aware localization systems

This paper proposes a first-principle model of GPS receivers, that allows us to exploit the trade-off between battery consumption and positioning accuracy. We present the model and propose a GPS sampling strategy that uses both the current positioning confidence, and information about the GPS status. We complement the GPS sensor with internal measurement units and show how the given model exposes
