Previous prize-winners

The Prize for Future Innovations is awarded by Lund University and Sparbanken Skåne. Since the start in 2017 we have seen hundreds of exciting, innovative, and sometimes downright weird ideas. Every year, the prize jury has the pleasant but difficult job of selecting the winners. So here they are, the winners of Lund University and Sparbanken Skåne’s Future Innovations Prize.  FUTURE INNOVATION AW

Syftet för den här framsA fundamental principle within the bankruptcy law is that the bankruptcy estate is not responsible for the debtor’s prior obligations. The environmental law is built around the purpose of enabling the enforcement system to demand accountability from a large group of corporations and persons. This, for the purpose of protecting present and future generations. An important matter is how to combine t

Stickiness between materials can be a challening task when dealing with the complex interactions and processes related to packaging engineering. Part of the problem is that many factors like temperature, pressure, surface treatment as well as surface roughness all could play a part in contributing to the stickiness between materials. In this thesis a literature study has been done to map out poten

Chile is one of the countries in South American working to achieve energy independence by introducing renewables energy to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions from conventional energy sources. Chile has a variety of water resources from the North to the South, where most of these resources are comprehended by short rivers that are exploited to produce hydro-electric power. Chile has a huge number

The European Union’s (EU) ‘market-oriented’ approach to renewable energy development risks undermining the ability of individual citizens to meaningfully contribute to, and benefit from, a decentralised, localised, and decarbonised energy system. In spite of the EU’s ambition to involve local communities for co-driving a low-carbon energy transition, there is no comprehensive analysis uncovering t

The global aviation industry is experiencing growing pressure to decarbonize, driving significant demand for Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Second-generation feedstocks that do not directly compete with food crops, such as lipid oils from insects and lignin-derived oils, are promising sources, but their high concentrations of inorganic contaminants and oxygen make them incompatible with existing

Dry reforming of methane (DRM) is a promising method for carbon dioxide utilization and hydrogen production, converting CO2 and CH4 into syngas (H2 and CO) using catalysts. Despite its potential, industrial implementation has yet to prevail due to challenges in loss of activity of the catalyst. Carbon deposition (coking) and catalyst particle agglomeration (sintering) occurring during the DRM reac

Background: Co-cultures and cell immobilization have been used for retaining biomass in a bioreactor, with the aim to improve the volumetric hydrogen productivity (QH2). Caldicellulosiruptor kronotskyensis is a strong cellulolytic species that possesses tāpirin proteins for attaching on lignocellulosic materials. C. owensensis has its reputation as a biofilm former. It was investigated whether con

Immanuel Kant wrote that the Conflict of the Faculties is a constant struggle for primacy that causes strife and ultimately undermines scholarly solidarity. His argument is a complex one, as it relates to the very ability of how to judge proper authority, what constitutes scientific truth, and how to create respect amongst a community of people representing divergent opinions. Whilst such consider

Due to the growing importance of demand response program (DRP) in demand side management in power systems as well as increasing employment of combined heat and power (CHP) units, the issue of energy management of large consumers equipped with CHP units in the presence of a DRP based on the day-ahead electricity price has been studied in this paper. To solve the considered non-convex and non-linear

The reaction kinetics of hydrogen-abstraction reactions from methoxymethanol (CH3OCH2OH) by hydrogen (Ḣ) atom, hydroxyl (ȮH), hydroperoxyl (HȮ2), methyl (ĊH3) and methoxyl (CH3Ȯ) radicals, and decomposition of the related hydroxyl-methoxyl-methyl (CH3OĊHOH), hydroxymethoxyl-methyl (ĊH2OCH2OH) and methoxyl-methoxy (CH3OCH2Ȯ) radicals, have been investigated in this study through high-level ab initi

Nanothermodynamics for optoelectronic semiconductor devices

Thermal fluctuations and non-equilibrium carriers can significantly alter the physical properties of nanoscale systems, and could be used to enhance the efficiency of energy-conversion therein. Here we describe our research to exploit these effects to boost the performance of nanoscale optoelectronic devices in a project funded by the Knut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation. Grant number: 2016.0089 T

The world production of paper and paperboard products, which increased 3.3% per year since 1980, reached 243 million tonnes in 1991 and is expected to continue to grow by about 2.5% per year over the next decade. Consumption levels in 1990 ranged from 2.8 kg per capita in India to 313 kg per capita in the United States. The biggest producers of pulp are the United States, Canada and the Scandinavi
