COOLGEOHEAT II - an Interreg project

Svenskt Geoenergicentrum, together with Borrföretagen, is participating in the INTERREG-ÖKS project COOLGEOHEAT II, which started in April 2024 and will run for three years. COOLGEOHEAT II is a continuation of the previous two-year project COOLGEOHEAT, which was completed in the fall of 2022. The aim of COOLGEOHEAT II is to increase the production of renewable energy from the ground for collective

This paper examines the potential of using ammonia (NH 3) as a primary fuel in heavy-duty engines for decarbonization, with some challenges yet to be addressed. It presents a numerical study of a Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition engine, where pilot diesel is used to ignite the premixed ammonia/air mixture. The numerical model and combustion mechanism are validated against engine experime

In this paper, cultural transmission between Slavs and Scandinavians from ca 900 to 1250 is discussed. Cultural identity and identity negotiation through style are topics often studied in higher social strata of societies. Emblemic style is maintained and displayed in jewellery or other eye-catching parts of the material culture to distinguish oneself in relation to others. However, the constructi

Emissions and fuel economy are evaluated for two types of biofuels, namely 2-phenyl ethanol and cyclohexaneethanol. Both are derived from lignin, a form of lignocellulosic biomass. The former and latter oxygenates have an aromatic and aliphatic (i.e. saturated) ring structure, respectively. Two parametric engine sweeps were performed. First, non-EGR operation by means of varying the load via injec

The double sided silicon strip detector (DSSSD) is a segmented silicon detector commonly used in the fields of high energy physics and nuclear physics. This type of detector is used for analysis of reactions produced by charged particles. This makes it well suited for a number of analytical methods commonly used in ion beam analysis (IBA), such as Rutherford Backscattering (RBS) and elastic recoil

Combination of right EGR rates with turbocharging has been identified as a promising way to increase the maximum load and efficiency of heavy duty spark-ignited natural gas engines. With stoichiometric conditions a three way catalyst can be used which means that regulated emissions can be kept at very low levels. The impact of different spark designs on the ignition and combustion stability is studied using a 13-liter CNG fueled heavy duty spark ignited engine to search for the “optimal” spark design. Experimental results show that robust ignition can be achieved using a significantly shorter spark duration and lower energy than expected. A capacitive discharge ignition (CDI) system enabled to separately

The future buildings and society need to be resilient. This article aims to propose a novel concept of the energy resilience framework and implement a color-based rating system to quantify and rate the energy resilience performance of buildings in Nordic climates. The objective is to conduct a comparative analysis between old (1970s) and new (2020s) single-family buildings integrated with renewabl

A Free Electron Laser (FEL), is a device that generates extremely coherent and brilliant radiation using electrons accelerated to relativistic velocities in a particle accelerator. The process utilises similar equipment to what is used at a synchrotron source like MAX IV, but in addition there is an interaction between the relativistic electron beam and the generated radiation to achieve an expone

We report on the influence of hydrogen bromide (HBr) in situ etching on the growth of InP, GaP and GaAs nanowires. We find that HBr can be used to impede undesired radial growth during axial growth for all three material systems. The use of HBr opens a window for optimizing the growth parameters with respect to the materials' quality rather than only their morphology. Transmission electron microsc
