PURPOSE: Bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) as a form of chronic lung allograft dysfunction is a limiting factor to the survival of lung transplant recipients. Detection and monitoring of chronic rejection is hampered by a lack of clinically available markers. Particles in exhaled air (PExA) is proposed as a noninvasive means of potentially identifying and observing BOS patients. This pilot s

A user-friendly high-resolution intermediate complexity dynamic and spatially distributed flow model is crucial in urban flood modeling. Planners and consultants need to improve the accuracy of floods and estimation of risks. A new flow model will serve as a rapid tool to improve identification of these. This article provides a detailed explanation of a model based on a multiple flow algorithm. Mo

The maritime expansion of Scandinavian populations during the Viking Age (about ad 750–1050) was a far-flung transformation in world history1,2. Here we sequenced the genomes of 442 humans from archaeological sites across Europe and Greenland (to a median depth of about 1×) to understand the global influence of this expansion. We find the Viking period involved gene flow into Scandinavia from the

Mitigating climate change will affect energy systems and have consequences that reach beyond environmental policies. The studies presented in this thesis analyse how reducing emissions of greenhouse gases affect (energy) security. The focus is on strategies which improve energy efficiency or increase the share of renewable energy. This thesis is based on five papers in which frameworks for conceptu

Purpose Complex organizations increasingly rely on middle managers as strategic linking-pins between the top and bottom levels of the organization. Using social identity theory and commitment theory as the foundation, this study evaluates a management and leadership development program (MLDP) intended to engage middle managers as strategy creators and implementers. We also evaluate the cascading e

Peel testing is used to study adhesive fracture in packaging material laminates. The focus is on improved understanding of the mechanisms that provide a laminate's adhesive properties, as measured by standard macroscopic tests. Using a specially-designed peel test load rig, peel tests are performed in-situ in a laboratory X-ray tomograph. The peel test results are analyzed using a combination of t

One out of ten cases of acute pancreatitis develops into severe acute pancreatitis which is a life threatening disorder with a high mortality rate. The other nine cases are self limiting and need very little therapy. The specificity of good clinical judgement on admission, concerning the prognosis of the attack, is high (high specificity) but misses a lot of severe cases (low sensitivity). The pre

Many exegetes set out to analyse not only rhetorical features in Galatians but also other features relating to Paul’s argumentation. Still, the use of insights from modern argumentation theory has been modest and no full-fledged argumentation analyses of Paul’s argumentation have yet been attempted. However, modern methods for argumentation analysis provide useful tools for such an undertaking. Us

Popular science summary Ortho Group SEARCH A gene is a unit of heredity of a living species. Genes are transferred from one generation to the next by vertical descent. Two genes are homologous if derived from a common ancestral gene. Homologous genes related by duplication event within the genome are paralogous genes. Copies of the same ancestral gene separated by a speciation event (when a spec
