Design is an activity aimed at solving an unsolved problem or improving an existing solution. In the area of societal safety, there are many activities that could be classified as design activities. For example when different actors are implementing measures to mitigate certain risk scenarios or when they are considering actions that could improve their capability to respond to various crises. We

Cirka 100.000 individer beräknas ha kroniskt förmaksflimmer i Sverige idag. Förmaksflimmer är vanligaAim: To non-invasively detect and explore the changes in atrial fibrillatory cycle length (i.e. changes in the atrial refractory period) in humans with chronic atrial fibrillation (CAF) following autonomic modulation and pharmacological intervention. Furthermore we investigated if the value of the atrial fibrillatory cycle length could predict outcome following DC-cardioversion. Methods: The stud

The ammoxidation of propane is commonly regarded as being the future route for producing acrylonitrile, and the Mo-V-Nb-Te-oxide system studied here has thus far been seen as the most promising candidate for achieving this. Yields of up to 62% have been presented very elegantly in the patent literature. A great disadvantage has been, however, that the crystalline quality of the catalyst tends to b

BTwo Swedish longitudinal cohort studies form the basis for this thesis that examines the components of well-being from young old to oldest old. The Lund 80+ cross-sequential design began in 1988 when participants were 80-years old (N=212) and follows them annually until all are deceased. The Dalby 67 began in 1969 when participants were 67 years old (N=192) and continued until they reached 92 year

This paper introduces a parabolic synthesis methodology for developing approximations of unary functions like trigonometric functions and logarithms which are specialized for efficient hardware mapped VLSI design. The advantages with the methodology are, short critical path, fast computation and high throughput enabled by a high degree of architectural parallelism. The feasibility of the methodolo

Motivated by concerns about anthropogenic climate change, this thesis contributes to the better appreciation of mechanisms that would allow actors in China, foreign as well as Chinese, to exert a positive influence on the country's industrial technology status. China is the world's second largest emitter of greenhouse gases - the lions' share of which emanates from industrial and electricity produ

In this paper, we investigate the impact of spatial coupling on the thresholds of turbo-like codes. Parallel concatenated and serially concatenated convolutional codes as well as braided convolutional codes (BCCs) are compared by means of an exact density evolution (DE) analysis for the binary erasure channel (BEC). We propose two extensions of the original BCC ensemble to improve its threshold an
