Research on very old people has shown that perceived aspects of home are important for health, but research on such associations in younger cohorts of older people is lacking. The aim of this study was to investigate whether perceived aspects of home were associated with psychological well-being among community-living people aged 67–70. Interview data were collected with 371 individuals living in

Inhibitor development in haemophilia is a serious complication to treatment with factor concentrates. Since the advent of more pure products, especially developed using recombinant DNA technology, some studies have shown an increased incidence of inhibitors in previously untreated patients (PUPs) receiving recombinant products whereas plasmaderived concentrates sometimes have been claimed to have

This report presents the result of a research project conducted in 2012-2013 that aimed to adjust the existing modularity theories so that they could be used in packaging development. The study resulted in a model that can be incorporated into an existing packaging design process, thereby complementing this with aspects of modularity. The research project was conducted in close collaboration with

Using a ground-based and an above-canopy eddy covariance system in addition to stem respiration measurements, the annual respiratory fluxes attributable to soil, stems and foliage were determined for a Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) forest growing in central Siberia. Night-time foliar respiration was estimated on the basis of the difference between fluxes measured below and above the canopy and

Particle image velocimetry (PIV) measurements and proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) are used to explore the turbulent structures in a ribbed channel. In this study, only one channel wall is equipped with square ribs which are oriented transversely to the main stream direction. The ribs obstruct the channel by 20% of its height and are arranged 10 rib heights apart. The results include mean str

The heat conduction in a two-dimensional square plate at nano/micro scales is investigated using numerical and semi-analytical methodologies which are energy conserving dissipative particle dynamics (DPDe) and Boltzmann transport equation (BTE) with the gray relaxation time approximation. The solution domain was considered to be a two-dimensional square plate surrounded by walls having constant te

Packaging has a significant impact on the efficiency of logistical systems and therefore, improvements in the retail supply chain can be achieved through the integration and development of the systems of packaging and logistics. In order to enable these improvements, models are needed that facilitate evaluations along the supply chain in order to grasp the whole picture and avoid sub-optimisations

The sound transmission in double walls at low frequencies is studied using a detailed geometric model, based on FEM. The model simulates the experiments carried out to determine the sound reduction index of the wall. The wall properties effect on the sound transmission loss is investigated and also how the sound reduction is affected by the dimensions of the connecting rooms.
