Invandrarföretagare : om drivkrafterna bakom valet att starta eget
The main purpose of this essay was to find out what motivates immigrants to start their own business. We decided to study the local immigrant-owned pizzarestaurants in Halmstad, Sweden. We choose to conduct a questionnaire and a couple of interviews, which was a complementary to extend our understanding. We wanted to get their view of motivations behind the choice to run their own business. We als
Preliminary study on the role of moisture and extractives of ornamental plants on the flammability
The many and costly wildland fires in later years have created a demand for better knowledge about the spreading of the wildland fire on to structures and how you should protect your home against these fires. This report is a part of a large study, “Analysis of the fire risk to structures in the southern California urban-wildland interface”, on these matters performed by the University of Californ

Förhoppningen är att studien kan bidra med ny kunskap inom aktuellt område, samt fungera som inspiratiThe purpose of the study is to examine the abnormal performance of IPOs, conducted on Nasdaq OMX Stockholm between the years 2000 and 2011, compared to a relevant sector index. The authors examine if there is a significant relationship between a selection of variables and obtained BHAR. Hopefully the study will contribute with new knowledge within this research area, and act as a source of inspira
Container-based Continuous Delivery for Clusters
The focus of this master’s thesis was aimed at E.ON’s electricity saving project, 100koll, in collaboration with IT-consulting firm Data Ductus. The 100koll users demand high availability, which creates a complex underlaying system-infrastructure. The processes of deploying and preparing new releases to the system is presently done manually. Data Ductus is requesting an investigation on whether or
Linking Rules Assessed Against European and National Legal Benchmarks - A Juridical Remedy to Mitigate Double Non-Taxation?
This thesis provides a comprehensive analysis of linking rules, which were adapted as one of the alleged remedies against base erosion by the EU and the OECD. A number of issues emerge in connection with those recommended rules. This thesis will thus assess compliance of those rules against domestic and European legal benchmarks. German national law will serve as an example of domestic integration
Studies of Double and Multiple Stars Using Space Astrometry
This thesis introduces and summarizes four papers dealing with the study of double and multiple stars using space astrometry. The introduction gives a brief review of the role of binary observations in various fields of astronomy --- star formation, stellar masses and the mass-luminosity relation, initial mass function, detection of sub-stellar mass companions. The astrometric techniques are also
Analysen blottlägger domstolens cirkelresonemang och visar hur den lagstiftning som i eThe thesis describes the development of the enactment of European Community Law in the field of sexual equality during the period of 1957-1997. With post-modern feminist theory as its point of departure, and with post-structuralist linguistics as method, it then analyses the argumentation of the EC Court of Justice in its interpretation of EC legislation during the same period. My aim is to examin
A case study of the class firewall regression test selection technique on a large scale distributed software system
Regression testing is expensive and may consume much of organizations’ software development budgets. Thus, it is of interest to reduce the total time devoted to test execution by using test selection techniques. Many techniques have been proposed but few have been evaluated on real-world, large scale systems. In this paper we report on an empirical evaluation of using the class firewall regression
Foreign trade and declining pollution in Sweden: a decomposition analysis of long-term structural and technological effects
This article examines whether there exists any causal relationship between foreign trade and declining pollution in developed countries. In other words, do developed countries outsource their problems to less developed countries rather than solve them? The case study is the Swedish economy and the two environmental indicators employed are energy consumption and CO2 emissions. No causal relationshi
Evolution of noctuid pheromone binding proteins: identification of PBP in the black cutworm moth, Agrotis ipsilon
Male black cutworm moths (Agrotis ipsilon, Lepidoptera, Noctuoidea, Noctuidae), which are attracted by a three-component pheromone blend ((Z)-7-dodecenyl acetate, Z7-12:Ac; (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate, Z9-14:Ac; (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate, Z11-16:Ac), express diverse antennal pheromone binding proteins (PBPs). Two PBP isoforms (Aips-1 and Aips-2) that show 46% identity were cloned from antennal cDN
High flux composite PTMSP-silica nanohybrid membranes for the pervaporation of ethanol/water mixtures
Silica-filled poly(1-trimethylsilyl-1-propyne) (PTMSP) layers were successfully applied for the first time on top of ultrafiltration support membranes and applied in the pervaporative separation of ethanol/water mixtures. Reduction of the thickness of the separating PTMSP top layer and addition of hydrophobic silica particles resulted in a clear flux increase as compared to dense PTMSP membranes.
Unusual extraction and characterization of nanocrystalline cellulose from cellulose derivatives
Unlike many nanomaterials, nanocrystalline cellulose (CNC) is not synthesized from molecular or atomic components but rather extracted from naturally occurring cellulose. Undoubtedly, the exploitation of CNCs will become a bridge between nanoscience and natural resource products, which could play a major role in reviving the forest industry. In this work, CNC was successfully extracted from unusua
Corrector-based magnet alignment procedure
A method of realigning the quadrupole magnets in storage rings to achieve minimum dipole corrector strengths is described. The corrector strengths after realignment are mainly determined by Beam Position Monitor offsets relative to the quadrupole magnets they have been calibrated against and the extent to which magnet dipole errors stay constant during the realignment. The accuracy to which quadru
The longitudinal age and birth cohort trends of regular exercise among adults aged 16-63 years in Sweden: a 24-year follow-up study
Background: The aim of this study is to analyze longitudinally, based on four measurements at intervals of eight years, the annual effect of age group and birth cohort on regular exercise in the Swedish population from 1980-1981 to 2004-2005. Methods: We followed a randomly drawn subsample of individuals aged 16-63 years, interviewed by professional interviewers, from the Swedish Annual Level of L
Induced N-limitation of bacterial growth in soil: Effect of carbon loading and N status in soil
Application of C-rich plant residues can change the soil system from C-limitation for microbial growth to limitation by other nutrients. However, the initial nutrient status of the soil may interact with the added amount of residues in determining limitation. We studied this interactive effect in soils from the Harvard Forest LTER, where annual addition of N since 1988 has resulted in soils with d
Swelling behavior of a new biocompatible plasmid DNA hydrogel
Chemical plasmid DNA (pDNA) gels were prepared by a cross-linking reaction with ethylene glycol diglycidyl ether (EGDE). Fluorescence microscopy (FM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images of pDNA gels are reported. For the first time, the pDNA gels have been investigated with respect to their swelling in aqueous solution containing different additives, such as metal ions, polyamines, polyc
Study of operational performance and electrical response on mediator-less microbial fuel cells fed with carbon- and protein-rich substrates
The inducement of electroactive consortia was carried Out in dual-chamber MFCS using acetate-based substrate- and a protein-rich synthetic wastewater in fed-batch mode. The characteristics of these MFCs were then compared. MFCs based on acetate-induced consortia (MFCAce) achieved more than twice higher maximum power, and one half of optimal external resistance in comparison to MFCs based on consor
Implementation of evidence-based models in social work practice: practitioners' perspectives on an MST trial in Sweden
The implementation of new treatment methods in social work practice is warranted. Moreover, little is known about professionals' attitudes toward the introduction of evidence-based practices into their communities. Therefore, this article reports on the implementation of a Swedish research project that evaluated Multisystemic Therapy (MST). All investigating social workers in a community-based soci
Low bone mineral density is associated with increased mortality in elderly men: MrOS Sweden
We studied the nature of the relationship between bone mineral density (BMD) and the risk of death among elderly men. BMD was associated with mortality risk and was independent of adjustments for other co-morbidities. A piecewise linear function described the relationship more accurately than assuming the same gradient of risk over the whole range of BMD (p = 0.020). Low BMD was associated with a
