Early prenatal exposure to suspected endocrine disruptor mixtures is associated with lower IQ at age seven

Background: Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are xenobiotics with the ability to interfere with hormone action, even at low levels. Prior environmental epidemiology studies link numerous suspected EDCs, including phthalates and bisphenol A (BPA), to adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. However, results for some chemicals were inconsistent and most assessed one chemical at a time. Objectives:

Macroeconomic equilibriums, crises, and fiscal policy

Fiscal policy plays an important role in alleviating the costs of the crisis. However, recent experiences suggest that the public finances often are unprepared for a crisis. Deficits and debt levels prior to the crisis are commonly too high, limiting the government’s ability to support the economy through the crisis and the recovery phase. In this paper, I argue that theoretical macroeconomic modeMacroeconomic crises are common as well as economically, socially and politically costly. Outcomes After Thrombectomy for Primary and Secondary Medium Vessel MCA Occlusions : a Nationwide Registry Study

BACKGROUND: Medium vessel occlusions (MeVO) can be either isolated events (primary), or secondary to thrombus migration from a large vessel occlusion to a medium-sized vessel. Outcomes following endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) in the middle cerebral artery (MCA) may differ between primary and secondary MeVOs. This study aimed to assess the association between primary/secondary MeVOs and clinical o

Examining cultural background and the protective effect of marriage on alcohol use disorder in Sweden

Background: Little is known about whether the protective effect of marriage on alcohol use disorder (AUD) varies by cultural background. Aims: Using Swedish national data, we examined whether marriage is associated with a stronger reduction in AUD risk among Swedes of a Swedish background (i.e. those with two Swedish-born parents) compared to Swedes with a foreign background (i.e. one or two forei

Identifying Abnormal Exertional Breathlessness in COPD : Comparing Modified Medical Research Council and COPD Assessment Test With Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing

Background: COPD management is guided by the respiratory symptom burden, assessed using the modified Medical Research Council (mMRC) scale, the COPD Assessment Test (CAT), or both. Research Question: What are the abilities of mMRC and CAT to detect abnormally high exertional breathlessness on incremental cardiopulmonary cycle exercise testing (CPET) in people with COPD? Study Design and Methods: A

A systematic review and synthesis of 489 studies investigating treatments for negative symptoms in the schizophrenia spectrum : Trial designs, demographics and clinical characteristics

Negative symptoms in schizophrenia spectrum are associated with minimal treatment responses. The search for effective treatments is potentially hampered by heterogenous study-designs and sample characteristics depending on the intervention category. This PRISMA-compliant systematic review/synthesis aims to describe the literature on negative symptoms interventions for schizophrenia spectrum disord

Estimation of actual evapotranspiration : A novel hybrid method based on remote sensing and artificial intelligence

Actual evapotranspiration (AET) is one of the decisive factors controlling the water balance at the catchment level, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions, but measured data for which are generally unavailable. In this study, performance of a base artificial intelligence (AI) model, adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system (ANFIS), and its hybrids with two bio-inspired optimization algorithms, n

Prevalence of and factors associated with early initiation of breastfeeding among women with children aged < 24 months in Kilimanjaro region, northern Tanzania : A community-based cross-sectional study

Background: Early initiation of breastfeeding offers nutritional and immunological benefits to the newborn, which is critical for health and survival. Understanding factors associated with timely initiation of breastfeeding is crucial for healthcare providers and policy-makers. This study aimed to assess the prevalence and factors associated with early initiation of breastfeeding among mothers wit

Healthcare utilization for somatic conditions among Swedish patients in opioid substitution treatment, with and without on-site primary healthcare

Background: Opioid substitution treatment (OST) populations are aging and have increased mortality and somatic morbidity compared to general populations internationally. While OST patients have poor self-rated physical health and unmet healthcare needs, documented healthcare utilization has been sparsely investigated. The aim of this study was to assess registered healthcare utilization for somati

Familial Mortality Risks in Patients with Ischemic Stroke : A Swedish Sibling Study

Background: The influence of familial factors on the prognosis of ischemic stroke (IS) is unknown. This nationwide follow-up study evaluated familial mortality risks of IS among Swedish sibling pairs hospitalized for IS. Methods: We linked Swedish nationwide registers for the identification of 1380 Swedish born sibling pairs (2760 cases), where both siblings were hospitalized for first-time IS bet

Galectin-4 levels in hospitalized versus non-hospitalized subjects with obesity : the Malmö Preventive Project

BACKGROUND: Obesity is strongly associated with the development of cardiovascular disease (CVD). However, the heterogenous nature of obesity in CVD-risk is still poorly understood. We aimed to explore novel CVD biomarkers and their possible association with presumed unhealthy obesity, defined as hospitalized subjects with obesity (HO).METHODS: Ninety-two proteins associated with CVD were analyzed
