Long-term market effects of green public procurement

Background and Policy Context: Previous chapters in this book have explored several product-oriented policies, including mandatory laws and product energy labelling, and discussed the importance of an appropriate policy mix. In this chapter, we examine the effects of demand-side policies, with a focus on green public procurement (GPP). GPP has been defined as ‘a process whereby public authorities

Principles for the design of a policy framework to address product life cycle impacts

Introduction: Product-oriented environmental law is an expanding, poly-thematic subsection of environmental law. First, an increasing number of policy instruments are being used at the international, European and national levels to regulate products, including mandatory performance standards, consumer subsidies, public procurement practices, product bans, taxes and charges and various kinds of man

Six year results of the Rebalance mobile bearing total ankle replacement

Background: We report the outcomes of a prospective consecutive series of 267 total ankle replacements (TARs) using a new mobile bearing Rebalance® prosthesis. Methods: Between April 2011 and December 2018, 267 consecutive Rebalance® prostheses were implanted in 255 patients at 3 different centers. Estimated survival curves with 95% confidence intervals were produced with the Kaplan–Meier method.

After The Bridge? : Adapting Noric Noir Success into a Viable Audiovisual Industry in Southern Sweden

This chapter uses the term adaption in the sense of how a regionally based, popular culture phenomenon has nurtured structural economic transformation. The chapter elaborates a critical examination of the comparative popularity of Nordic noir, asking whether the two long-running film and television crime franchises Wallander (Wallander, (1994–2016) and The Bridge (Bron/Broen, 2011–2018) have been

Biological interpretations of the biphasic model of ontogenetic brain-body allometry : A reply to Packard

Allometry is a description of organismal growth. Historically, a simple power law has been used most widely to describe the rate of growth in phenotypic traits relative to the rate of growth in overall size. However, the validity of this standard practice has repeatedly been criticized. In an accompanying opinion piece, Packard reanalysed data from a recent study on brain-body ontogenetic allometr

Experiences and Management of Incidents That Influence Sleep in Patients With Cardiovascular Disease and Insomnia

BACKGROUND: Insomnia is a global problem and an important risk factor for patients living with cardiovascular disease (CVD), causing poor well-being and worsening disease prognosis. Yet, there is a lack of effective intervention strategies targeting sleep problems. To deliver patient-centered interventions and achieve good quality of sleep for this group, the own experiences of patients with CVD n

Informality and Uzbek Migrant Networks in Russia and Turkey

This chapter explores the interconnections between informality, migrant agency and networks of trust and solidarity in hybrid political regimes. These processes will be illustrated through the comparative study of the Russian and Turkish migration regimes, specifically focusing on the case of Uzbek migrant workers and their patterns of residence, incorporation into the labour market, gendered expe

Anatomy of a 21st-century project: A quick autopsy

We all are accustomed to projects. Projects are everywhere, and everything is basically a project. We have learnt how to deal with projects, for better or worse. Some of us love them, some of us are fed up with them. But projects are here to stay. Projects are far from a new invention, what has changed is the fine-tuning. It has changed to the point that projects of today are virtually unrecognisa

Identification of behavioural model input data sets for WWTP uncertainty analysis

Uncertainty analysis is important for wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) model applications. An important aspect of uncertainty analysis is the identification and proper quantification of sources of uncertainty. In this contribution, a methodology to identify an ensemble of behavioural model representations (combinations of input data, model structure and parameter values) is presented and evaluate

A review of flux identification methods for models of sedimentation

Most models of sedimentation contain the nonlinear hindered-settling flux function. If one assumes ideal conditions and no compression, then there exist several theoretically possible ways of identifying a large portion of the flux function from only one experiment by means of formulas derived from the theory of solutions of partial differential equations. Previously used identification methods an

BPI-ANCA and Long-Term Prognosis among 46 Adult CF Patients: A Prospective 10-Year Follow-Up Study.

Introduction. Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies specific for bactericidal/permeability-increasing protein (BPI-ANCA) are frequent in CF patients and mainly develop in response to infection with Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is not known to what extent BPI-ANCA correlates to prognosis. Objectives. To evaluate the prognostic value of IgA-BPI-ANCA, measured at the beginning of the study, for transp

Neutron star binaries and long-duration gamma-ray bursts

Cosmological long-duration gamma-ray bursts (LGRBs) are thought to originate from the core collapse to black holes (BHs) of stripped massive stars. Those with sufficient rotation form a centrifugally supported torus whose collapse powers the GRB. We investigate the role of tidal locking within a tight binary as a source of the necessary angular momentum. We find that the binary orbit must be no wi

Streptococcus pyogenes type M12 protein shows selective binding to some human immunoglobulin G3 myeloma proteins

Purified, recombinant M12 protein from Streptococcus pyogenes CS24 has recently been demonstrated to bind human immunoglobulin G3 (IgG3). The binding site for IgG has been localized to an internal peptide encoded by a PvuII fragment of the gene emm12. We have investigated the ability of an isolated recombinant M12 protein consisting of the peptide encoded by the PvuII fragment to bind various mono
