A systematic review on regression test selection techniques

Regression testing is verifying that previously functioning software remains after a change. With the goal of finding a basis for further research in a joint industry-academia research project, we conducted a systematic review of empirical evaluations of regression test selection techniques. We identified 27 papers reporting 36 empirical studies, 21 experiments and 15 case studies. In total 28 tec

The meaning of feeling well in people with moderate or severe traumatic brain injury

Aim. The aim of this study was to elucidate the meaning of feeling well for people with moderate or severe traumatic brain injury. Background. Considerable attention has been given to research consequences, quality of life and satisfaction with life in people with traumatic brain injury. Most studies reveal negative aspects of living with traumatic brain injury. Knowledge that provides an understa

Calcium metabolism and breast cancer risk

Emerging evidence suggests that calcium and its regulating hormones, i.e. vitamin D and parathyroid hormone (PTH), affect breast cancer risk. The associations between serum calcium levels and breast cancer risk, between serum calcium levels and known risk factors of breast cancer, and between serum calcium levels and breast cancer aggressiveness were examined within the Malmö Preventive Project,

Temporal trends (1990-2000) in the concentration of cadmium, lead and mercury in mosses across Europe

The European heavy metals in mosses survey provides data on the concentration of 10 heavy metals in naturally growing mosses. The survey has been repeated at five-yearly intervals and in this paper we report on the temporal trends in the concentration of cadmium, lead and mercury between 1990 and 2000. Metal- and country-specific temporal trends were observed. In general, the concentration of lead

Active control of the pointing of a multi-terawatt laser.

The beam pointing of a multi-terawatt laser wave laser is stabilized on a millisecond time scale using an active control system. Two piezo mirrors, two position sensing detectors, and a computer based optimization program ensure that both near- and far-field are stable, even during single shot operation. A standard deviation for the distribution of laser shots of 2.6 μ rad is achieved.

The LKB1-salt-inducible kinase pathway functions as a key gluconeogenic suppressor in the liver.

LKB1 is a master kinase that regulates metabolism and growth through adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and 12 other closely related kinases. Liver-specific ablation of LKB1 causes increased glucose production in hepatocytes in vitro and hyperglycaemia in fasting mice in vivo. Here we report that the salt-inducible kinases (SIK1, 2 and 3), members of the AMPK-related kinase fa

Positive effect of protein-supplemented hospital food on protein intake in patients at nutritional risk: a randomised controlled trial

BackgroundNew evidence indicates that increased dietary protein ingestion promotes health and recovery from illness, and also maintains functionality in older adults. The present study aimed to investigate whether a novel food service concept with protein-supplementation would increase protein and energy intake in hospitalised patients at nutritional risk. MethodsA single-blinded randomised contro

Effects of S(+)-, R(-)- and racemic ketamine on the brain

Redan efter några års användniRacemic ketamine, introduced in the mid-sixties, contains equal proportions of the enantiomersS(+)- and R(–)-ketamine. Early clinical reports indicated unfavourable effectson intracranial pressure (ICP) and on the cerebral circulation. Current literature on thistopic is however sparse, and available reports are divergent. The aim of this doctoraldissertation project was to study cerebral and syste

Bleeding complications related to warfarin treatment: a descriptive register study from the anticoagulation clinic at Helsingborg Hospital

The most common indication for treatment with warfarin is the prevention of ischemic stroke in patients with atrial fibrillation. Time in therapeutic range (TTR) is an important tool to evaluate the quality of anticoagulation treatment. The aim of this study was to investigate the quality of treatment and the incidence of bleeding complications in patients on warfarin treatment treated by the anti

A runoff map based on numerically simulated precipitation and a projection of future runoff in Iceland

The runoff of Iceland has been evaluated for the period 1961-1990, and changes in runoff from then to the period 2071-2100 predicted according to a future projection of climate change. The hydrological model WASIM-ETH was used, with meteorological data from the PSU/NCAR MM5 numerical weather model. The evaluation of the effects of climate change on water resources was based on a future climate sim

Prognostic impact of early ventricular fibrillation in patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction treated with primary PCI.

Current guidelines do not advocate implantation of cardioverter-defibrillators (ICD) for survivors of ventricular fibrillation (VF) during the first 48 hours of ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). However, contemporary studies in a real-life setting with long-term follow-up are lacking. We assessed the prognostic impact of early VF in a non-selected population of STEMI patients treated wit

Sequence Analysis of the Capsid Gene during a Genotype II.4 Dominated Norovirus Season in One University Hospital: Identification of Possible Transmission Routes.

Norovirus (NoV) is a leading cause of gastroenteritis and genotype II.4 (GII.4) is responsible for the majority of nosocomial NoV infections. Our objective was to examine whether sequencing of the capsid gene might be a useful tool for the hospital outbreak investigation to define possible transmission routes. All NoV positive samples submitted from one university hospital during the 2007/8 season

The ALICE experiment at the CERN LHC

ALICE (A Large Ion Collider Experiment) is a general-purpose, heavy-ion detector at the CERN LHC which focuses on QCD, the strong-interaction sector of the Standard Model. It is designed to address the physics of strongly interacting matter and the quark-gluon plasma at extreme values of energy density and temperature in nucleus-nucleus collisions. Besides running with Pb ions, the physics program

Recent Results at Ultrahigh Spin: Terminating States and Beyond in Mass 160 Rare-earth Nuclei

A classic region of band termination at high spin occurs in rare-earth nuclei with around ten valence nucleons above the Gd-146 closed core. Results are presented here for such non-collective oblate (gamma = 60 degrees) terminating states in odd-Z Ho-155, odd-odd Ho-156, and even-even Er-156, where they are compared with neighbouring nuclei. In addition to these particularly favoured states, the o

Monographs and Open Access

delta-Aminolevulinic acid dehydratase genotype predicts toxic effects of lead on workers' peripheral nervous system

There is a wide variation in sensitivity to lead (Pb) exposure, which may be due to genetic susceptibility towards Pb. We investigated whether a polymorphism (rs1800435) in the delta-aminolevulinic acid dehydratase (ALAD) gene affected the toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics of Pb. Among 461 Chinese Pb-exposed storage battery and 175 unexposed workers, allele frequencies for the ALAD1 and ALAD2 alle
