Some sums of Legendre and Jacobi polynomials

We prove identities involving sums of Legendre and Jacobi polynomials. The identities are related to Greens's function for powers of the invariant Laplacian and to the Minakshisundaram-Pleijel zeta function.

Agreement with Collective Nouns in English

Gender differences in implicit moral orientation associations: The justice and care debate revisited

Employing new measures (Implicit Association Test) to study the classic issue of moral orientations, we predicted and found gender differences in implicit associations to the concepts of justice and care. Specifically, we found that men more strongly associate justice vs. care with importance and with themselves than women. However, participants’ explicit ratings did not reveal any clear patterns

Climbing Fiber Regulation of Spontaneous Purkinje Cell Activity and Cerebellum-Dependent Blink Responses(1,2,3).

It has been known for a long time that GABAergic Purkinje cells in the cerebellar cortex, as well as their target neurons in the cerebellar nuclei, are spontaneously active. The cerebellar output will, therefore, depend on how input is integrated into this spontaneous activity. It has been shown that input from climbing fibers originating in the inferior olive controls the spontaneous activity in

Coping strategies and health symptoms among women and men in a downsizing organisation

This study examined how women and men cope with stress during a period of organisational change and how the coping strategies are related to health. Questionnaire responses were obtained from 98 female and male administrators of health care service working in a Swedish governmental County Council during a period of downsizing. In line with earlier studies the results showed women to be more likely

Incretin Hormone and Insulin Responses to Oral Versus Intravenous Lipid Administration in Humans.

Context: The incretin effect is responsible for the higher insulin response to oral glucose than to iv glucose at matching glucose levels. It is not known whether this effect is restricted to glucose only. Objective: The aim of the study was to examine whether insulin and incretin hormone responses are higher after oral vs. iv challenge of a lipid emulsion with matching triglyceride levels in huma

MIRD Pamphlet No. 23: Quantitative SPECT for Patient-Specific 3-Dimensional Dosimetry in Internal Radionuclide Therapy

In internal radionuclide therapy, a growing interest in voxel-level estimates of tissue-absorbed dose has been driven by the desire to report radiobiologic quantities that account for the biologic consequences of both spatial and temporal nonuniformities in these dose estimates. This report presents an overview of 3-dimensional SPECT methods and requirements for internal dosimetry at both regional

The Development of Grammar : Language Acquisition and Diachronic Change. In honor of Jürgen M. Meisel

This volume focuses on different aspects of language development. The contributions are concerned with similarities and differences between first and second language acquisition, the acquisition of sentence structure and functional categories, cross-linguistic influence in bilingual first language acquisition as well as the relation between language acquisition, language contact and diachronic cha

Political institutions and their historical dynamics.

Traditionally, political scientists define political institutions deductively. This approach may prevent from discovery of existing institutions beyond the definitions. Here, a principal component analysis was used for an inductive extraction of dimensions in Polity IV data on the political institutions of all nations in the world the last two centuries. Three dimensions of institutions were revea
