Sex-Specific Associations of Circulating Uric Acid with Risk of Diabetes Incidence : A Population-Based Cohort Study from Sweden
Objective: To explore the longitudinal, as well as sex-specific, associations between circulating uric acid (UA) and diabetes incidence. Methods: A cohort study of the Malmö Diet Cancer-cardiovascular Cohort (Malmö, Sweden) consisting of 3140 individuals without diabetes at baseline, was followed up until the end of 2018. Incident diabetes cases were identified by linking to local and national diab
Towards cross-sector risk management in Swedish critical infrastructures
Modern societies have come to depend on certain vital services, such as electricity, transportation and information, and a loss of their continuous supply would affect the modern citizen far more than his or her 19th century counterpart (Boin et al., 2003). Past disruptive events have, furthermore, highlighted the existence of dependencies between the systems that sustain these services, commonly
Roamers : audiences on the move across entertainment platforms in Southeast Asia
Media industries recognise the extent to which the potential audiences for their products are now made up significantly of “roamers,” people finding diverse routes through the options available and combining them in different ways. The main research question in this article is: what sort of precise movements, combinations and connections become possible for roaming audiences in rapidly expanding c
The associations between red cell distribution width and lung function measures in a general population
BACKGROUND: Red cell distribution width (RDW) reflects heterogeneity of the erythrocyte volumes. High RDW is a novel risk marker, which has been associated with mortality and morbidity both from cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, but the association between RDW and measures of lung function in the general population remains unclear.METHODS: The associations of RDW with spirometry, diffusing
Within-session reproducibility of forced oscillometry
BACKGROUND: The forced oscillation technique (FOT) provides detailed information about the mechanics of the respiratory system, while requiring minimal co-operation by the patient. FOT may be abnormal in subjects with normal spirometry and appears to be more closely related to airway symptoms. It is, therefore, attractive in epidemiological studies, where a large number of different examinations a

Beyond Culture : Advancing the understanding of political and technological contexts in crisis communication
This study aims to theoretically advance the context-oriented tradition in crisis communication by highlighting the political and technological contexts for understanding organisational crises. Using China as a case, the study proposes a broader analytical framework that investigates the societal contexts’ impact on crisis communication from political and technological domains. The analytical fram

Pain and analgesics in patients with hard-to-heal ulcers : using telemedicine or standard consultations
OBJECTIVE: To compare consultations carried out via video with those performed in person for patients with painful, hard-to-heal ulcers, with a focus on ulcer pain and pain treatment. A further aim was to investigate predictors for pain and pain treatment.METHOD: This was a register-based, quasi-experimental study based on data from the Swedish Registry of Ulcer Treatment (RUT). A total of 100 pat
Medication-related hospital readmissions within 30 days of discharge : A retrospective study of risk factors in older adults
BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that approximately 20% of hospital readmissions can be medication-related and 70% of these readmissions are possibly preventable. This retrospective medical records study aimed to find risk factors associated with medication-related readmissions to hospital within 30 days of discharge in older adults (≥65 years).METHODS: 30-day readmissions (n = 360) were as
Higgs boson production cross-section measurements and their EFT interpretation in the 4ℓ decay channel at s√=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
Higgs boson properties are studied in the four-lepton decay channel (where lepton = e, μ) using 139 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data recorded at s√=13 TeV by the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. The inclusive cross-section times branching ratio for H→ZZ∗ decay is measured to be 1.34±0.12 pb for a Higgs boson with absolute rapidity below 2.5, in good agreement with the Standard Mo
Search for a heavy Higgs boson decaying into a Z boson and another heavy Higgs boson in the ℓℓbb and ℓℓWW final states in pp collisions at √s=13 TeV with the ATLAS detector
A search for a heavy neutral Higgs boson, A, decaying into a Z boson and another heavy Higgs boson, H, is performed using a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 139 fb- 1 from proton–proton collisions at s=13 TeV recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The search considers the Z boson decaying into electrons or muons and the H boson into a pair of b-quarks or W bosons. The m
Outcome of cataract surgery in eyes with diabetic retinopathy : a Swedish national cataract register report
Purpose: To analyse if patients with diabetic retinopathy (DR) subjected to cataract surgery differ in outcome compared to patients without DR with regard to best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), deviation from target refraction, intraoperative difficulties and risk of complications. Methods: A register-based study from the Swedish National Cataract Register (NCR) during the years 2015–2017 includi
Accessibility and uncertainty : An empirical analysis of option value in transport
Are there option values for transport services? A few studies have tried to answer this question through various stated preference methods, but we do not know much about its magnitude in different contexts. In this paper, we summarize the theory on option value, present previous empirical work concerning transport, and discuss its links to accessibility. Accessibility can be seen as the end produc

Poly(styrene)- block-Maltoheptaose Films for Sub-10 nm Pattern Transfer : Implications for Transistor Fabrication
Sequential infiltration synthesis (SIS) into poly(styrene)-block-maltoheptaose (PS-b-MH) block copolymer using vapors of trimethyl aluminum and water was used to prepare nanostructured surface layers. Prior to the infiltration, the PS-b-MH had been self-assembled into 12 nm pattern periodicity. Scanning electron microscopy indicated that horizontal alumina-like cylinders of 4.9 nm diameter were fo
