Public transport path choice estimation based on trip data from dedicated smartphone app survey
Having access to realistic and empirically grounded passenger valuations of public transport trip components facilitate the undertaking of necessary trade-offs during planning of transport networks. Discrete choice estimation of path choice preferences is a practical way to obtain such preferences. This paper proposes a new take on the empirical foundation of path choice estimation based on reveal
On an Integral Identity
We give three elementary proofs of a nice equality of definite integrals, recently proven by Ekhad, Zeilberger, and Zudilin. The equality arises in the theory of bivariate hypergeometric functions, and has connections with irrationality proofs in number theory. We furthermore provide a generalization together with an equally elementary proof and discuss some consequences.
Multi-region modeling of conversion of a thick biomass particle and the surrounding gas phase reactions
In this paper, a novel multi-region Eulerian model is presented to study the conversion of thermally thick biomass particles. In the present model, the particle and the surrounding fluid are treated as two separate regions that are coupled through an interface. There are some benefits for using a multi-region approach, including a more realistic radiation modeling, flexibility to define the flow b

Bridges, Walls, Doors : On Democracy and Nature
I denna studie argumenteras att grön demokrati diskThe concept of green democracy has been advanced in green political theory as a way to include the natural world in the political and, by that, overcome an alleged wall, a fundamental disunity, separating humans and nature in modernity and substitute it with a unity of identity that would bridge the gap between them. It has also been vested with the coupled power to transform society in a sustaina
Being in the shadow of the unknown - Swedish women's lived experiences of pregnancy during the COVID-19 pandemic, a phenomenological study
BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound effect on the emotional well-being of expecting mothers. Sweden's unique strategy for managing COVID-19 involved no national lockdown. Emphasis was instead placed on limiting crowding and asking citizens to practice social distancing measures.AIM: To gain a deeper understanding of how women not infected by SARS-CoV-2 experienced pregnancy during
Systemic Risk and Centrality Revisited: The Role of Interactions
We analyze to what extent the contribution of banks to systemic risk depends on their centrality in financial networks. We find that centrality is an important determinant of systemic risk, but not primarily by its direct effect. Its main influence is to make other risk measures, such as probability of default, more important for highly connected banks. Neglecting the indirect effect of centrality
New clean energy communities in polycentric settings : Four avenues for future research
Given the gaps between EU ambitions regarding energy community development and the current reality of clean energy communities in Europe, we explore a research framework enabling viable multi- and interdisciplinary research into new clean energy communities. We offer a definition of new clean energy communities, discuss their potential for wider dissemination and identify four factors that contrib
From Attraction to Repulsion to Attraction: Non-Monotonic Temperature Dependence of Polymer-Mediated Interactions in Colloidal Dispersions
In this work, we have synthesized polystyrene particles that carry short end-grafted polyethylene glycol (PEG) chains. We then added dissolved 100 kDa PEG polymers and monitored potential flocculation by confocal microscopy. Qualitative predictions, based on previous theoretical developments in this field (Xie, F.; et al. Soft Matter 2016, 12, 658), suggest a non-monotonic temperature response. Th
Force Field Effects in Simulations of Flexible Peptides with Varying Polyproline II Propensity
Five peptides previously suggested to possess polyproline II (PPII) structure have here been investigated by using atomistic molecular dynamics simulations to compare how well four different force fields known for simulating intrinsically disordered proteins relatively well (Amber ff99SB-disp, Amber ff99SB-ILDN, CHARM36IDPSFF, and CHARMM36m) can capture this secondary structure element. The result
Multimodal ex vivo methods reveal that Gd-rich corrosion byproducts remain at the implant site of biodegradable Mg-Gd screws
Extensive research is being conducted on magnesium (Mg) alloys for bone implant manufacturing, due to their biocompatibility, biodegradability and mechanical properties. Gadolinium (Gd) is among the most promising alloying elements for property control in Mg alloy implants; however, its toxicity is controversial. Investigating Gd behavior during implant corrosion is thus of utmost importance. In t
Glucose and high-sensitivity troponin T predict a low risk of major adverse cardiac events in emergency department chest pain patients
Background. Glucose is emerging as a biomarker for early and safe rule-out of acute myocardial infarction in emergency department (ED) chest pain patients. We evaluated the diagnostic accuracy of dual testing with high sensitivity TnT (hs-cTnT) and glucose for prediction of major adverse cardiac events (MACE) within 30 days. Methods. This was a secondary analysis of a single-center prospective obs

Public space in a city of streets and sidewalks: repackaging urban critical theory in the development of eastern Malmö
For several decades, a whole range of critical approaches emphasizing networks, flows and mobility have gained ground in social theory and slowly made its way into governmental practice. In few fields of study has the epistemological shift been as marked in both theory and practice as urban studies in general, and those interested in public space in particular. From Jane Jacobs ‘ballet’ of the str
Evaluation of the Sialidase Inhibitor Oseltamivir in GNE-associated Thrombocytopenia
Background: GNE encodes UDP-N-acetyl-glucosamine-2-epimerase/N-acetylmannosamine kinase, the rate limiting enzyme of sialic acid biosynthesis. Biallelic variants in GNE have recently been associated with severe isolated macrothrombocytopenia, attributed to an increased clearance of desialylated platelets. Interestingly, treatment with the sialidase inhibitor oseltamivir has been reported to increa
