A BFKL dipole model, and its event generator DIPSY, developed for pp collisions is extended to initial states of heavy ion collisions. All tuning is made for gamma*p and pp inclusive and minimum bias data, leaving the extension to heavy ions model independent. Eccentricities are calculated and compared to other common inital state models.

Context. In many plasmas, long-lived metastable atomic levels are depopulated by collisions (quenched) before they decay radiatively. In low-density regions, however, the low collision rate may allow depopulation by electric dipole (E1) forbidden radiative transitions, so-called forbidden lines (mainly M1 and E2 transitions). If the atomic transition data are known, these lines are indicators of p

The present thesis investigates, analyses and critically discusses the manner in which children with special needs are categorised in the Swedish preschool. The emergence of the category and its construction depends on a number of “truths” concerning children, related to historical and cultural processes in society. A main focus of the thesis is to investigate how legitimacy is established for the

A search for a heavy Standard Model Higgs boson decaying via H -> ZZ -> l(+)l(-)q (q) over bar, where l = e or mu, is presented. The search uses a data set of pp collisions at root s = 7 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 4.7 fb(-1) collected in 2011 by the ATLAS detector at the CERN LHC. No significant excess of events above the estimated background is found. Upper limits at 95% co

Background: beta-Microseminoprotein (MSP) is one of the three most abundantly secreted proteins of the prostate and has been suggested as a biomarker for prostate cancer risk. A common variant, rs10993994, in the 5' region of the gene that encodes MSP (MSMB) has recently been identified as a risk factor for prostate cancer. Methods: We examined the association between rs10993994 genotype and MSP l

We test if innovations in investor risk aversion are a priced factor in the stock market. Time series tests show that the new factor partly explains the strong momentum effect in stock returns. Furthermore, using 25 portfolios sorted on book-to-market and size as test assets, our new factor together with the market factor explains 64% of the variation in average returns compared to 60% for the Fam

This thesis analyses fluid management services (FMS) in metalworking industry and determines environmental and economic outcomes of FMS as compared to traditional, in-house, fluid management. Fluid management services, or as it is often called chemical management services (CMS), mean that the suppliers of chemicals are also involved in managing and maintaining the fluids in the use phase. Usually

The electronic structure of strongly correlated systems is usually calculated by using an effective model Hamiltonian with a small number of states and an effective on-site interaction. The mode, however, neglects the frequency dependence of the interaction, which emerges as a result of dynamical screening processes not included in the model. The self-energy calculated in this kind of model within

This paper describes and illustrates how a network picture methodology can create understandings of external parties in mergers and acquisitions (M&As). Recent studies have brought attention to the limited use of qualitative research methods and the overlooked marketing perspective in M&A studies. Network pictures refer to how individual actors in companies perceive their company's busines

Purpose: This article explores the construction and configuration of environmentally friendly living through making visible the link networks that surround personal greener living blogs. The following questions guide the exploration: Which types of organisations/actors structure the issue network of green living blogs as it emerges through links? How do these links contribute to carving out themati

Background and Purpose-Impaired kidney function is thought to be associated with small vessel disease, outcome, and mortality in the general stroke population. Data are limited regarding young patients. The aim of this study was to investigate the association of kidney function and white matter hyperintensities (WMHs) in young patients with first ischemic stroke. Methods-We analyzed 2500 young (18

BACKGROUND People who are religiously unaffiliated (including self-identifying atheists and agnostics, as well as those who say their religion is "nothing in particular") made up 16.4% of the world's population in 2010. Unaffiliated populations have been growing in North America and Europe, leading some to expect that this group will grow as a share of the world's population. However, such forecas

Non-equilibrium quantum phenomena are ubiquitous in nature. Yet, theoretical predictions on the real-time dynamics of many-body quantum systems remain formidably challenging, especially for high dimensions, strong interactions or disordered samples. Here we consider a notable paradigm of strongly correlated Fermi systems, the Mott phase of the Hubbard model, in a setup resembling ultracold-gases e

In the female turnip moth, Agrotis segetum, a pheromone biosynthesis activating neuropeptide (PBAN) stimulates sex pheromone biosynthesis which exhibits a daily rhythm. Here we show data supporting a circadian rhythm in PBAN release from the corpora cardiaca, which we propose regulates the endogenous rhythm in sex pheromone biosynthesis. This conclusion is drawn as the observed daily rhythm in PBA

The brilliance of modern synchrotron radiation sources and capabilities of new instrumentation facilitate molecular resonant inelastic soft X-ray scattering with high spectral quality. Especially, energy resolution of vibrational fine structure allows for a detailed analysis, providing information about the dynamic coupling between nuclear and electronic degrees of freedom. After a brief historica

We report on magnetotransport measurements on InSb nanowire quantum dots. The measurements show that the quantum levels of the InSb quantum dots have giant g factors, with absolute values up to approximately 70, the largest value ever reported for semiconductor quantum dots. We also observe that the values of these g factors are quantum level dependent and can differ strongly between different qua
