Transient ischemic attack and ischemic stroke patients with or without prior stroke

Objectives: A history of stroke is common in patients with transient ischemic attack (TIA) and ischemic stroke (IS), but there are few reports characterizing this group of patients. We aimed to compare characteristics, risk factors, and secondary preventive treatment in patients with TIA or IS with vs without a history of stroke. Methods: Hospital-based data on TIA and IS events, registered from J

Measurement of the differential cross-sections of prompt and non-prompt production of J/ψ and ψ (2S) in pp collisions at √s = 7 and 8 TeV with the ATLAS detector

The production rates of prompt and non-prompt J/ψ and ψ (2S) mesons in their dimuon decay modes are measured using 2.1 and 11.4 fb−1 of data collected with the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider, in proton– proton collisions at √ s = 7 and 8 respectively. Production cross-sections for prompt as well as non-prompt sources, ratios of ψ (2S) to J/ψ production, and the fractions of nonpromp

Koloskopier måste kvalitetssäkras : Verksamheterna bör registrera och följa upp specifika indikatorer för högkvalitetskoloskopi

Colonoscopy plays a key role in the work-up of digestive diseases and constitutes the cornerstone in colorectal cancer diagnosis and prevention. Data suggest that the quality of colonoscopy varies widely between different endoscopists. This article summarizes current evidence and expert consensus on quality indicators, along with the evidence supporting their use in benchmarking, quality reporting

Multiplicity and transverse momentum evolution of charge-dependent correlations in pp, p–Pb, and Pb–Pb collisions at the LHC

We report on two-particle charge-dependent correlations in pp, p–Pb, and Pb–Pb collisions as a function of the pseudorapidity and azimuthal angle difference, Δη and Δϕ respectively. These correlations are studied using the balance function that probes the charge creation time and the development of collectivity in the produced system. The dependence of the balance function on the event multiplicit

Sensitization and cross-reactivity patterns of contact allergy to diisocyanates and corresponding amines : Investigation of diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate, diphenylmethane-4,4'-diamine, dicyclohexylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate, and dicylohexylmethane-4,4'-diamine

Background: Isocyanates are used in polyurethane production. Dermal exposure to isocyanates can induce contact allergy. The most common isocyanate is diphenylmethane diisocyanate used for industrial purposes. The isomer diphenylmethane-4,4'-diisocyanate (4,4'-MDI) is used in patch testing. Diphenylmethane-4,4'-diamine (4,4'-MDA) is its corresponding amine. Concurrent reactions to 4,4'-MDI and 4,4'

Plasma-derived versus recombinant factor concentrates in PUPs : A never ending debate?

Inhibitor development in haemophilia is a serious complication to treatment with factor concentrates. Since the advent of more pure products, especially developed using recombinant DNA technology, some studies have shown an increased incidence of inhibitors in previously untreated patients (PUPs) receiving recombinant products whereas plasmaderived concentrates sometimes have been claimed to have

Guidelines and recommendations for laboratory analysis in the diagnosis and management of diabetes mellitus

BACKGROUND - Multiple laboratory tests are used to diagnose and manage patients with diabetes mellitus. The quality of the scientific evidence supporting the use of these tests varies substantially. APPROACH - An expert committee compiled evidence-based recommendations for the use of laboratory testing for patients with diabetes. A newsystemwas developed to grade the overall quality of the evidenc

Measurement of WW/ WZ→ ℓνqq′ production with the hadronically decaying boson reconstructed as one or two jets in pp collisions at √s=8TeV with ATLAS, and constraints on anomalous gauge couplings

This paper presents a study of the production of WW or WZ boson pairs, with one W boson decaying to eν or μν and one W or Z boson decaying hadronically. The analysis uses 20.2fb-1 of s=8TeVpp collision data, collected by the ATLAS detector at the Large Hadron Collider. Cross-sections for WW / WZ production are measured in high-pT fiducial regions defined close to the experimental event selection.

A Linearization Technique for Differential OTAs

This brief presents an operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) linearization technique that is applied to a low-noise amplifier (LNA) and an OTA-C filter. Simulations show the effectiveness of the proposed technique on the LNA, whose noise and gain performance remain unaffected while the linearity is significantly improved. Measurements of the 80-MHz fourth order Butterworth OTA-C filter are

Acute Pancreatitis. Biomarkers and radiology assessment

Background: Acute pancreatitis (AP) is a common and potentially severe disease. Early identification of severity grade is crucial for the outcome of the patient. For study approaches and comparison of inter-institutional data the AP patients need to be uniformly classified. The aims of this thesis were to investigate the early stratifiation capacity of biomarkers in AP and to assess the morphologic

War, peace & the city : Urban conflicts over peace(s) in the postwar cities of Belfast, Mitrovica, and Mostar

Postwar cities demonstrate the most persistent continuities of war in peace. This effectively forces people into divided and politicised lives, undermines city-wide urban dynamics, and hampers wider peace processes that these cities are part of. It, however, also goes against what can be and historically is expected of the city – namely to transcend divides, bridge communities, and foster co-exist

Combustion characteristics of some alternative fuels in ICE: : a detailed numerical study

Two major fuels commonly used in compression ignition (CI) and spark ignition (SI) enginesare diesel and gasoline. The reserve of diesel and gasoline is limited, however the combustion ofthese fuels giving rise to air pollution. This calls for the search for alternative fuels, preferablyrenewable fuels, and the development of more efficient and clean combustion technologies forinternal combustion

Insight into particle production mechanisms via angular correlations of identified particles in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV

Two-particle angular correlations were measured in pp collisions at s=7 TeV for pions, kaons, protons, and lambdas, for all particle/anti-particle combinations in the pair. Data for mesons exhibit an expected peak dominated by effects associated with mini-jets and are well reproduced by general purpose Monte Carlo generators. However, for baryon–baryon and anti-baryon–anti-baryon pairs, where both

Measurement of D-meson production at mid-rapidity in pp collisions at √s=7 TeV

The production cross sections for prompt charmed mesons D 0, D +, D ∗ + and Ds+ were measured at mid-rapidity in proton–proton collisions at a centre-of-mass energy s=7TeV with the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). D mesons were reconstructed from their decays D 0→ K -π+, D +→ K -π+π+, D ∗ +→ D 0π+, Ds++→K-K+π+, and their charge conjugates.With respect to previous measurements in

Record performance for junctionless transistors in InGaAs MOSFETs

We demonstrate junctionless tri-gate MOSFETs utilizing a single layer 7 nm thick In0.80Ga0.20As (ND ∼ 1×1019 cm-3) as both channel and contacts. Devices with source and drain metal separation of 32 nm and Lg of 25 nm exhibit SS = 76 mV/dec., both the highest reported gm = 1.6 mS/μα and Ion = 160 μA/μm (VDD = 0.5 V, IOFF = 100 nA/μm) for a junctionless transistor. We also examine the influence of t

Vertical heterojunction InAs/InGaAs nanowire MOSFETs on Si with Ion = 330 μa/μm at Ioff = 100 nA/μm and VD = 0.5 v

We present vertical InAs nanowire MOSFETs on Si with an In0.7Ga0.3As drain. The devices show Ion and gm/SS record performance for vertical MOSFETs and Ioff below 1 nA/μm at Vd 0.5 V. We show a device with gm=1.4 mS/μm and SS=85 mV/dec, therefore having Q-value (gm/SS) of 16. The device has Ion=330 μA/μm and 46 μA/μm at Ioff 100 nA/μm and 1 nA/μm, respectively. Furthermore, we show a device with SS

The stem cell regulator PEDF is dispensable for maintenance and function of hematopoietic stem cells

Pigment epithelium derived factor (PEDF), a ubiquitously expressed 50 kDa secreted glycoprotein, was recently discovered to regulate self-renewal of neural stem cells and have a supportive effect on human embryonic stem cell growth. Here, we analyzed expression of PEDF in the murine hematopoietic stem cell (HSC) compartments and found that PEDF is highly expressed in primary long-term HSCs. Theref
